This is not okay. Please Mangago, take this story down
Hey y'all, Black Kageyama here writing from a friends account because I am still restricted. I don't know if I'm overreacting, but I needed to bring attention to this story. This is serious.
There is this story:
http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/nuestro_ltimo_amanecer/You can read it for yourself if you want to see whatever type of abomination this was, but to sum it up, it's a black slave x master's daughter gl. Yup. You heard me, a black slave x master's daughter gl. If that didn't sound absolutely bad on first hearing, it gets a fuck ton worse. It romanticizes this this dynamic, waters down the slave experience, and incorrectly portrays the life of a slave and slavery in general. I almost puked after reading this story, it made me so fucking angry.
why the only black girl in a gl got to be a slave?
even if this was meant to showcase a story of a life on a plantation that actually treats them decently, the way the portrayed it was so disgusting. The author makes it seems like there is "just some ups and downs", and fails to take into the account the seriousness, the reality, the excruciating labor, and the realness of it all. Even the "nicer' plantation owners didn't treat slaves as equals. Keep in mind, that there is no "nice" plantation owner because they are literally BUYING AND SELLING HUMANS JUST SO THEY CAN WORK! The way this story paints the experience of a slave is incorrect, and is honestly insensitive. We can not afford to have slavery painted in that sort of light. It fuels the narrative some of these delusion-ist have that "slavery wasn't all that bad", and it looks away from the horrors of the enslavement of people. People already think that slavery stopped at whipping and burning, when in actuality, that was just the beginning. This story was marketed as a nice, bittersweet story, and that made me fume.
Now, getting onto the actual love, this romance would and should NEVER be seen as healthy because the whole “slave- master” thing creates an imbalanced power dynamic. This story cheapens, waters down, and baby feeds the story of slavery. Istg a kindergarten teacher teaching slavery to her kids would explain it better than whatever this was. As a black person, I felt uncomfortable with this story. Am I the only one? am I overreacting? Either way, I want this story taken down though. It just sickens me.
