My native language is Hebrew, and here in Israel we start learning English in 2nd grade and most people can speak English pretty well. We are a small country so we have to know it pretty well and there are a lot of things that are just not available in Hebrew. In 5th grade some schools make the kids learn Arabic too. In middle school we get to choose our third language and most of the times the options are French and Arabic. I had Chinese but it got closed sadly, and now I have to learn Arabic but I'm not really interested lol.
In high school it stays the same unless the group learning the language is small so the school doesn't bother to even hire a teacher :/
I am learning right now Japanese, it's fun but I need more motivation lol xD
I hate that I'm getting lazy and not learning Japanese and I have so much time because it's summer vacation.
Probably a stupid sugesstion but how about if someone got a tip for a language he will write it here? maybe it can help someone.

Tips for memorizing would be writing it down, since writing can seriously help you memorize quite fast, that's how I went from a 5 for french to a 9. If you can memorize really well, you can write a sentence down in your own language, learn how to say it in the other language, wait, and then try to visualize it in your mind while repeating it outloud, write it down and check if it's correct. This way you know for sure that you memorized it and you waste less time. Even just writing and not particulary thinking can still help you! And for japanese I would also recommend maybe trying to find some raw japanese manga's online for small children, like raw yotsuba chapters? Since they mostly have Furigana (small hiragana) figures next to the kanji, so beginners can also read it, since you first need to learn hiragana and katakana. That way you can practice your reading and then compare it to the english translations to see if you're correct. But goodluck! Hope this helped you a bit!
