opinion on sub and uke tropes

i'm genuinely curious as to why people like those tropes. i was reading "love stage" and the author was indirectly talking about how they were afraid to make it a switch couple because it'd get less sales. like wtf?! gay relationships r not hyper-masculine man and a girl with a dick. can someone PLEASE give me a reasonable reason as to why these tropes exist and why switch couples are looked down upon? i'm on the verge of losing my marbles

Because bl is shoujo in disguise to make it more digestible ('cause apparently mlm relationships are too much for people to read about unless it's through the lens of straight ones) for a largely straight audience and that means including all the heteronormative bullshit. 1 reply

Sorry if this a little confusing, English is not my first language but as far as I know, asian countries tend to do that. Even thought we all know in gay couples there won't always be a specific "uke" or "seme", it seems that it's not the same case in Japan or South Korea, unfortunately. you have to know that this is the author's job and she makes money off of it. no matter what she likes it would have no meaning if no one reads it. i am happy that she actually make them switch. you shouldn't be mad at the author but the people who are like that, cus believe it or not most people like the feminine boy trope (i am not one of those p...... 1 reply

It's prolly to not disturb the cishet people's ideas of masculinity and feminity. Also the part I hate the most in BLs after the rapist to lover trope, because it's so obviously not realistic at all and just so that the least gender norms are shaken. reply
