I still don't know what it was

When I was kid, it was getting dark and I can't remember if I was waiting for my sis/bro(?) But I kept looking at the sky walking back an forth so I became tired and bored. As I was looking a for a place to sleep (I know, I was or am still, a brat) anyway I didn't find any since I was outside and at least 3 or 2 miles away from home, so I kept looking at the sky when then something white caught my eye. It moved, disappeared, and move around but steady. And no, even as a kid I was used to listening to helicopters so it cannot be the light from a helicopter. When all of it just stayed above the apartment street I was waiting on just a pure white light it stayed the same color, the light didn't fade, it just stayed white but in a shape of a ball sometimes a little bit like an oval. It didn't come near me but like it came it went. And faster than when it had gone close to the apartments. Well that's my true story, believe it or not any suggestions on what it could have been. I mean the thing stayed white even when it was a long distance away from me, and even close up to the street it stayed the same color. (￣∇￣")
