What would you do if your parents would say " I'm proud of you"

Nothing? I don't care if they're "proud of me" or not. Their preconceived notions of what I should or shouldn't be mean literally nothing. I live for myself, and I don't care if the result of that is in line with what they want for me or not. That's neither my problem nor my priority, nor should it be.
