-people can seperate fiction from reality
- correlation doesn't equal causation
- the definition of a fetish is "a form of sexual desire in which gratification is linked to an abnormal degree to a particular object, item of clothing, part of the body, etc.". emphasis on the word abnormal.
- reading yaoi as a means of sexual gratification is not fetishizing gay people unless you are obsessing over gay people because of yaoi and associating sexual gratification with real life gay men.
- imagining yourself as a character in a yaoi is not fetishizing gay people unless you constantly imagine yourself as a gay man outside the context of yaoi.
- just because someone reading yaoi CAN end up fetishizing gay people doesn't mean that they always WILL; most people can separate fictional characters from reality, and will not expand their interests outside of the realm of fiction.
- by saying someone is fetishizing gay people by reading yaoi, you are assuming that they obsess over gay people in real life due to them reading yaoi, and aren't mentally mature enough to separate fiction from reality.
-by accusing anyone of fetishizing anything, you are assuming that they fixate upon that thing.
-straight romances and/or erotica doesn't fetishize straight people
-most readers of BL aren't aroused by the fact that the characters are gay
