About the Lezhin Allegations...
So probably most people here know about Lezhin as a lot of the comics on this site are taken from Lezhin. Many also know that currently there are a lot of accusations surrounding the payments of the authors working for Lezhin. I see a lot of people here talking about it and saying they don't want to contribute to Lezhin considering the controversy but I'm here to try to convey what is happening. Lezhin has had some issues based on old management and with current rules/regulations. Some authors spoke out about this and Lezhin is suing them for defamation. Basically, there are still discussions between artists and Lezhin and things are trying to be sorted out as authors are trying to take them to court and are working with bigger organizations to get comic artists certain rights as artists/businesses in the future so that companies like Lezhin and other comic hosting sites can't take advantage of artists.
However, Lezhin still has a lot of potential to be a good service as there are no other sites like it providing English and Japanese translations. Also, most comic sites do not pay artists at all and are free platforms. Basically, Lezhin needs to be fixed but it is still currently the best option out there, especially for artists to make money. Artist ARE being paid since some legal stuff has been sorted out, they're just fighting to be paid more and to not have regulations imposed that decrease what they make. YOU SHOULD STILL BE BUYING COINS ON LEZHIN TO SUPPORT THE ARTIST AND ESPECIALLY RIGHT NOW SINCE THEY NEED THE MONEY IN THEIR LEGAL BATTLES. If you have bought coins, spend them or else all coins that are not spent will go 100% to Lezhin if you deactivate your account. Currently, when you buy the translated versions of the comics, artists are making 10-20% of the revenue spent on their comics. That adds up, they need it. Buying Korean versions gives them 30% of that revenue. It is not hurting the artists to buy their comics despite these Lezhin issues, IT HELPS THEM. So to anyone boycotting Lezhin, please support these artist by not stealing their work. Buy the printed copies/books the artists are creating or spend coins on them. If they aren't making money then they will go on hiatus just like many authors already have and will not finish their comics. If they can get money and make it through these legal battles, many artists will be able to keep making their comics as well as hopefully make Lezhin better.
I understand it may be easy to find comics on here, but if you find a comic with an english translation for sell, consider spending money on some of the chapters. Being poor is not an excuse, these are professionals and you are technically stealing from hardworking professionals that you admire. You would pay a baker for their cake, you pay to have your car's oil changed, you should be paying to read people's comics. Its not difficult to wait until you make some money to buy the next chapter, thats just how the real world works. The majority of loss of revenue to artists at Lezhin are from sites stealing and distributing their work--- They actually did a study to find out how much the actual revenue is. Also, the sites with illegal copies are getting way more hits and traffic than the service providing the comics so that also hurts them. You are hurting somebody. I get wanting to find out if you like the comic or not before spending money on it, but if you do like it and continue to read it, find a way to get any sort of money you can to the author. It is their job. For many of them this is their only job and when you don't pay you are stealing food off their table. You are not entitled to their handwork, especially when being provided translated versions for sell (many of the comics on here do not have translated copies for sell but many korean manhwa are from Lezhin). Please try to support the artists whose work you consume.
