ethnicity and race isnt the same goddamn thing

context: chinese-american here lol. well im full chinese, i just think of myself as an chinese-american. im actually a first gen immigrant bc i was born from immigrant parents, yayyyy?

ethnicity (as defined from the good ol' wiki): a grouping of humans based on people who identify with each other on the basis of shared attributes that distinguish them from other groups such as a common set of traditions, ancestry, language, history, society, culture, nation, religion, or social treatment within their residing area

or in layman's (dumbed) terms: a group of people that identify with each other because they share similar things like language, religion, social treatment, history, etc., etc.

race (from the wiki, again ofc): grouping of humans based on shared physical or social qualities into categories generally viewed as distinct by society

race was created by white people because you guessed it slavery, wowwwww. race is used to categorise africans from many different ethnicities, europeans (many english/early-americans) into the whites, and native americans of different tribes into indians. irish well were discriminated against and were kept as slaves but irish slaves just became obsolete after a while, plus they were still considered by french and spanish to be well humans with rights because they shared the same religion. this meant that white people looked down on the other races more because they were usually poor though some of the other races were able to become successful and free. this really just proves how long the system of white privlege started, disgusting shit man. the new social construct meant that controlling other races especially africans/african-americans became easier, they could easily suppress/discriminate against them, and easily get more slaves.

ill even use another example to show how races shouldnt exist. this one will involve the one and only... yes you guessed it! miss covid-19. now as a chinese person you can only guess how many hate crimes have been made towards me and other chinese people. its especially shitty when many chinese americans havent even stepped foot on china but still got shit on. (if ones reading this rn, you should go lol, its pretty cool tbh, and besides the foods fucking bomb) anyways other south eastern asians like korean and japanese people were also discriminated, not because they were chinese, oh no no no, but because they shared the same race as us chinese folk do. literally the idea of race is so dumb, RACE WAS CREATED BY SAYING, "SIMILAR FACIAL FEATURES WELP TOO BAD BUD I GUESS THE TWO YALL ARE FAMILY NOW", WHEN THE TWO PEOPLE COULD BE FROM DIFFERENT ETHNICITIES AND CANT EVEN UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER. (this also goes with living in places close to each other)

ethnicity is what you would use to describe your lineage, where you lived, the shit you spoke, and believed in. this means hispanic isnt a race its an ethnicty, so white hispanics DO exist. latina/o is a race. being jewish is more of a ethno religion than a ethnicity and black IS an ethnicity. thats mainly because when slaves existed they were considered black people, they couldnt hold onto their ethnicity, culture, and were put together with other people who werent their ethnicity but still considered the same cuz they black. this meant that people had to just be black/african americans bc they didnt know what ethnicity they were and created their own black culture, fashion, etc. this' pretty much the only special case tho.

so yeah fuck the system and please put pride into your ethicity cuz shits the only thing keeping a lotta people together.

also fun fact: nationality is pretty much country youre a citizen in. so im nationally an american lol.
