Yes, I do

Indigo Indigo 2018-01-14 19:22:01 About owning being a fujoushi
I'm an adult woman I don't have a problem owning it. But all my male gay friends (and I have a lot of them) just HATE Yaoi. They think is ridiculously unrealistic and they hate the feminization of the characters (it's not even about physical aspects it's about behaving as a woman would) and the fact that there is not a lot switching ...but they do appreciate when I send some fine art smut images their way..lol
I wish I had a fudanshi friend though...

I have a gay friend who LOVES yaoi lol. Also, most mangas don't do relationships realistically (I'm not only talking yaoi). So if people want a really realistic relationship...then yeah they should refrain from most mangas haha.

Hey, I love Yaoi! I was just sharing how is like with the people around me since this is about owing being a fujoushi

I am a gay fudanshi and have been reading yaoi on and off since about 2008 - yes, a lot of times characters behave ridiculously but isn't that fun too? If you want realistic stuff maybe MANGA wasn't really the first place you should look, haha. And most yaoi is written by women sooo it's not so strange if characters behave in a femine way - bara on the other hand (I've heard but I haven't really researched too much about authors) is by guys for guys! Oh well, bless your gay friends and you!

also, there's the whole thing about fetishizing gay guys, so...

@Kakyo i guess you have a point! haha~
i think that i (and the g/b community in general) aren't huge fans of the way the characters are portrayed in yaoi simply because it's a representation issue. quite a few people tend to think that gay guys are ultra-feminine, which isn't always the case.
also, the whole "unrealistic" thing is very much true - a relationship, gay or not, simply doesn't play out like it does in most yaoi. a lot of yaoi relationships are abusive or extremely unhealthy, and have an extreme seme-uke dynamic, so it's just not to some people's taste. honestly, i'm fine with yaoi itself as long as people don't have the expectation that real-life guy/guy relationships work like they do in yaoi or that real gay guys act the way that yaoi characters do.
and, the harry potter analogy doesn't really make much sense. yes, it's about witches and wizards and magic, but the characters, their interactions with other characters, and their relationships with other characters are quite realistic, unlike in yaoi.
i didn't mean to offend anyone in any way. these are just my own opinions, as a guy who has been in *relationships* with other guys.

It's manga ffs not a "how to date" training guide lmao I am a proud 35 years old gay man and I tell you that any person (male or female, gay or straight) who expects to find anything realistic relationshipwise whilst reading a work of fictional romance, is a complete fool. I understand not liking the "extreme" dynamics but manga is about fantasy and not reality, fiction over facts. Again, if they want to see real social interactions, go out and engage with other people but don't give me the "because it's unrealistic" line when I know for a fact that if I sent some bara their way they would be all over it even if it portrays a dominant/submissive relationship.
And my HP analogy was about pointing out that works of fiction shouldn't be bound by the rules of "reality". Does not matter that witches don't exist in reality because HP isn't real life, just as it shouldn't matter that yaoi doesn't portray reality as it also isn't real life you know? (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜 I took no offense on your opinion and I hope you take none in mine either.

Sorry but who the heck reads a manga hoping for a "realistic" thing? It's the same as watching a movie. I don't remember anyone whining about how unrealistic Harry Potter is (╯°Д °)╯╧╧ if I wanted reality I'd just go to a gay bar and watch boring people picking up boring people all night without barely exchanging names or hang out on grndr, but I rather read cute/fun stories with bishies (=・ω・=)

황진영 January 14, 2018 8:56 pm

yeah, the relationship dynamic is pretty unrealistic, haha. i've read a lot of yaoi myself, and though it's fun to read, it's not representative of a real, healthy relationship, and the whole big masculine seme / skinny feminine uke thing is kinda weird. i mostly read yaoi for the smut and rarely for the story haha
*i'm a bi guy, if that means anything
