It's definitely a real problem in the community. Rape and assault can be written tastefully into a story as long as it's recognised as bad and there's some reason WHY it's in there, along with some kind of consequence. You are quite right about that. What scares me the most is the extent to which they'd go in order to defend it. I agree it's a concern, and a very valid one. A lot of the time I just won't read the comments, even though rape and dub-con are kinks of mine. It does bother me when people defend it as if it was good or romantic, rather than just admit, "That was hot/well-written/evocative, even if it's messed up."
