TREES CLASS ON: LYING TELLS
Y’all know the drill: I watch a lot of true crime, my grandpa worked in law enforcement etc etc.
Anyway;
Most of what people think are tells for lying (looking away maintaining, eye contact, shifting in your seat, touching hair, etc) ARENT actual tells. Looking away can mean someone is processing information, shifting in your seat can communicate anxiety, touching your hair is a self soothing action, and maintaining eye contact can be done to assert dominance/confidence. None of these are reliable tells.
THAT BEING SAID; there are some less commonly known tells that can suggest someone might be being deceptive:
•If a person over explains a uncomplicated subject (ex: someone asks “what were you doing yesterday morning?”. An honest person will typically say something short like; “I walked the dog and got ready for work”. A deceitful person will go into great detail about their morning as a way to make their story seem more believable).
•A deceitful person will typically downplay a crime/something bad they did and are being accused of. (Ex: instead of saying “Stephanie was dism/mbered” they will say “Stephanie was hurt”)
•A deceitful person will talk around what ever they are being accused of (Like the famous line “I did not have s/xual relations with that woman” instead of “I’m not having an affair/ We didn’t have s/x”)
•A deceitful person will play naive while they are being accused of something, a honest person will address the accusations (usually with hostility)
Remember that everyone reacts differently and these won’t always apply. These are just the tells law enforcement typically looks out for.
I don't think I have any tells besides my heart beating super fast
