(I know it's an obvious answer but that's all there is to it, I think) You have to draw a lot, whenever you have the chance! Tutorials are good but nothing beats lots of practice, and practice with real objects/people/places is the best for improving, it helps you understand how stuff works for real (I mean how lights and shadows work, how perspect......
