I am also self learning using Duolingo. I'm Filipino and my dialect's Bisaya. I learned English first before Tagalog at school. I moved to the US and now I'm learning Spanish cuz it's required and at the same time learning and practicing my Korean with Duolingo and Korean dramas.   1 reply

I learned english through Google Translator. There was a site with flash games about nature and such, and everyone was speaking in english. I didn't understand a shit so I started to translate what people said to me, then translate from spanish to english my own replies. My main language is spanish.   4 reply

I used Duolingo for Japanese. I thought it was pretty good for rapid learning of basic conversational words, sentence structure and grammar. It's not as in-depth as Human Japanese, but every little bit of practice helps and Duolingo offered that practice while making it fun and interesting.   4 reply

Ah, I'm currently self-teaching myself Korean! I can proudly say that 95% of the reason is so I can watch Bangtan Bombs without subtitles and the other 5% is just because I love the language. It's kinda stressful, but rewarding when you finally get it. Third day of learning and I have (somwhat) memorized Hangul!   reply
