I am fluent in Japanese

RandomOtaku RandomOtaku 2016-05-22 04:20:17 About learn japanese chinese korean
Honestly I am fluent in Japanese ( English is my second language) , but because of money being really tight (I am a college student) I have not been able to buy manga, ( but I do read on Japanese manga websites that give you some chapters of the manga to read, I also plan to start buying on the kindle once I get one.. Which may be after I graduate ). So I read manga on this website, I do buy some when I go back to Japan (old book stores sell for real cheap) if I really love it. I've tried to learn Korean and Mandarin, but my efforts only continued for three years. I do want to start again, but I think that I need to have something trigger my will again.

You said you tried learning Korean right? How close are the two grammars? Do they have a lot of similarities? Or are there a lot of different grammar rules?

I have tried to learn Korean, but I had given up on it before I got too in depth ... Grammar between Korean and Japanese are similar in their basic ideas, but if get into the nitty gritty and really learn the grammar they are really different. Speaking though, between Korean and Japanese there are a lot of similarities. I often refer to this post here : http://www.guidetojapanese.org/blog/2006/08/12/which-is-harder-japanese-or-korean/ . Because the author does a better job explaining the differences and similarities then I ever could. I hope this helps. (=・ω・=)

Hi,
I am sorry if I am being impertinent, but I would like to ask you a question, if you don't mind. I am actually moving permanently to Japan, but I know nothing but the basics, resulting in an extremely broken japanese. I speak like "do your want" or stuff like that.
Can you give me any tips? Because I am a disaster and I really want to learn it by myself, for I can not hire a teacher.
I have been up on online web sites to learn it, but I haven't found any really good ones.

If you are going to move to Japan, I do recommend a couple of books such as Genki series as it will teach you the basics of Japanese writing and grammar. When you move to Japan I would recommend trying to find and make a friend that at least speaks some English. So that the process of learning Japanese would not be as hard. Getting around in Japan should not be too hard since there are signs that are in English. ( Japanese people tend to be nice and will "most" likely be willing to help you out) Another quick way to learning Japanese would be to watch Japanese anime ( start with a basic anime like Shounen Ashibe) with English translations, the more you get used to hearing the language and connecting sound to the English meaning the better. ( its also a lot more fun this way). I am not sure too much about online, as I have not found any that are really worth it. Hmm.. I can give you more options, but they may cost a lot of money. I hope that some of this can help you. And if I do remember more ways, I will reply again.

Sorry for suddenly popping in the convo (● ̄(エ) ̄●) If you've already learned some basic japanese, try to speak to japanese even if its broken japanese. I think you would learn to speak faster if the person you're trying to talk to is japanese.

Thanks for all the advices, I will look for those books. I have actually been in Japan twice (my family is japanese) but not for too long, so I didn't really learn much. I will try your advices out, thanks.

yeah, and since most of them were really kind (at least the ones I talked to during the short time I was there) I think it will be easier to talk to them without feeling embarassed like I felt in some european countries when I was learning english.
Thanks!
