I DONT UNDERSTAND MATE HELP ME OUT
(CONTEXT) So someone said Bangchan from skz did cultural appropriation because he was wearing cornrows.
One girl said that she didn't agree with why he was getting hate and that people need to chill and leave it up to the black people to decide. Well here's my response.
(BEFORE U GET INTO IT PLEASE DONT LEAVE ANY HATE. THIS IS A DISCUSSION AND I DONT WANT ANYONE GETTING ATTACKED. IF YOU FEEL LIKE I SAID SOMETHING WRONG, EDUCATE ME INSTEAD OF ANGRY YELLING AT ME THROUGH THE COMMENTS. k carry on)
I'm a black woman and honestly, I AGREE. I'm not saying this because he's cute or because I'm a fan. I'm saying this because it deserves to be said. First and foremost, let me put y'all on something real quick. Rice water. Black people love it, white people love it, everyone loves it. It was from the Yao women in China. It was their culture and still is. Are people that use it Appropriating them? I use it. Should I be canceled? No. Can I not use it? It's just to grow my hair. ALSO! Hairstyles like the one Chan is wearing in the picture is something we call a protective style. The amount of bleach and dye that has gone into their hair and people think they don't need a style to maintain their hair so it doesn't break? (no tea no shade). I do not see a reason that other people cannot embrace culture from others. Not to mention another example that isn't cosmetic. Language. Language is a part of culture. I'll use the creole language. Creole was a language used to make sure the French couldn't understand what Haitians were saying to get out of slavery. If someone in modern times were to want to learn that language, could they? Or would it be cultural appropriation? Can you not learn a language because it sounds nice? Can you not wear a hairstyle because it looks nice? I'm sorry for the rant. But I sincerely don't understand why people get so triggered. Everyone uses something from another culture sometime in their life. Music, dance, hair, language, whatever, they all came from a culture at some point in time.
ok see you made a valid point here, and yes culture is meant to be appreciated and shared. but appropriation in when someone is mocking or using a certain aspect of a culture to fulfill their own desires. like if a white girls says the n word and wears cornrows, or if a girl is racist towards asians but wear chopsticks in their hair or have space b......
