Am I just being overly sensitive?
Hi! Since I can't talk about this with anyone irl, I was kinda hoping you fellas here would be understanding and kind enough to read this and answer it with deep thoughts and honesty.
So, I started reading yaoi around two years ago. It was purely an accident because I was looking for the Haikyuu!! manga, but I stumbled upon a duojinshi. I was very afraid about people finding out that I liked yaoi because,
1. A lot of my irls are homophobic.
2. Yaoi basically fetishizes men's homosexual relationships.
3. Yaoi is seen as very vulgar and disgusting.
And today, as we are all stuck in our homes because of covid, a lot of my irls are tempted to read Yaoi. Some share memes and post it on their timelines. Some are even PROUD OF READING YAOI. It just doesn't sit right with me that a lot of people are now into it... Maybe I really just wanna gatekeep yaoi to myself and to the anonymous people here... I don't know... I've been thinking critical about yaoi although I also like reading about it. I just don't want people to fetishize or romanticize homosexual relationships because fiction is very from far reality...
A lot of people who are part of LGBTQIA+ are struggling day to day to be honest with themselves and yet, there are some heteros who indulge themselves with fictions regarding someone else's sexuality.
So I just wanna ask, am I being overly sensitive? I really don't know... Please someone answer me.
Anyway, you can talk to me. Here is my id on mangago : 1322001
I get what you mean with irls getting into yaoi now publicly, when beforehand we were all hella scared abt being found out. I also def understand what you said abt gatekeeping, but I've thought abt it and it's fine if they're just enjoying yaoi like we are. Like Oko, I think the problem is if they're fetishizing real people. I don't think you're be......
