I discovered what was Shounen Ai when I was 11 because of Yuri on Ice, then eventually I found out about Yaoi, only got into it when I turned 13 though.
Nowadays it's pretty easy to find things on internet ╮(￣▽￣)╭
But of course, there's some yaoi which are really really really heavy that shouldn't be read by kids
