it's not meant to represent shit so ofc its not a good representation of mlm relationships? but i kinda get why ppl dislike yaoi when it usually just perpetuates awful stereotypes of gender roles within the relationship and sum of da most popular yaois glamourizes lack of consent but cmon the bl market's huge asf and theres many good bls too. btw r......   1 reply

in a sense, yes, it could be considered fetishization of gay men. the content in most yaoi mangas are of sexual nature and aimed more at straight women than actual gay men. i don’t think reading it is necessarily fetishizing gay men (yes, that is kind of contradicting my last statements), but it does cross a certain line when you begin connecting......   1 reply

I myself am a gay male, and what I’ve seen is that it often depends on the yaoi and it’s readers. Some people I’ve seen say stuff like “I love gay people!” and end up trying to force the stereotypes of yaoi and bl onto real gay ppl. Sometimes they expect us to be addicted so sex or something, but the reason I think we can seem that way is......   reply

Honestly, I think it's no different from people getting off to mangas with straight couples. It's still an unrealistic representation of relationships. It's no different or worse just because the relationship is homosexual. And some yoai/bl mangas are very good at representing realistic relationships and feelings and I'm sure there are straight cou......   reply

I don't believe we do. No one in their right mind will read a yaoi and actually think this is what mxm relationships are like. Enjoy it for what it is: fiction. There is a lot of yaoi that's pretty bad imo but it's fiction. There are many genres of books/manga/manhwa that will offend people. You can't please everyone. For those people (rare) that a......   reply

I think it might be fetishized to a certain degree but the common thing is that these yaoi/ bl comics are designed for fantasized mlm relationships. There’s a difference between fantasy and reality. People should be able to differentiate the two. I feel like some comics spread awareness as to what happens to how gay people are treated and others ......   reply

i mean, yes? if u specifically like yaoi, then yeah. coming from a pan man's perspective, yaoi manga is def made by straight women for straight women. yaoi tends to have a lot of problematic relationship portrayals, including an alarming amount of nonconsentual relationships. it does affect how gay ppl are treated irl. tbh im scared to ever bring a......   2 reply

Possibly? it really depends on what aspect of yaoi you like. Do you like it just because they're gay? Do you relate more to yaoi for it being loosely from a man's 'perspective'? Or, are you just sick of the typical shoujo and josei plot? There are more questions that can be asked. I honestly don't think the the true problem here is the yaoi itself......   reply

Personally, I never fetishize a gay person that I meet in real life. I find it rude and irrational.I guess you could say it's messed up on how straight women make the yaoi relationships. But it is just fiction. It is just like writing a book. If people who read yaoi actually go out into the real world and say/do gross things to gay men...I sincerel......   reply
