I've always wanted to get older, but now not so much... I like the idea of getting older and having my own place and a stable job with independence, but I'm just in the awkward college still sort of a-kid phase. Growing up I was always the youngest in a situation and I feel like that's all I could really offer. I just finished my first year of uni and now that I'm entering my second year I won't be "babied" anymore since I'm not a first-year my age is really hitting me. And I know it sounds stupid cause technically I'm 19 and not quite "old" yet, but I feel like I'm at a turning point right now. Like something is changing. I don't know. I hated being a kid cause I had a rough upbringing, but I'm clinging to the past like a lifeline. It's pathetic, but I feel like I have no more excuses for how underdeveloped and how stupid I still feel now.
I had this crazy encounter with someone I just met. They looked like a guy, dressed like a guy, and had a super deep voice. I even complimented their outfit, saying "Hey man, where did you get that outfit?" and later told my friend how awesome "he" looked. Next thing I knew, they're accusing me of being homophobic for not asking about their pronouns first. I tried to explain that I assumed because they looked like a dude, but things quickly turned into a whole argument about pronouns and stuff. It got even more heated when they started implying that using "man" was offensive. It got me thinking - do pronouns really matter that much? CEOs are usually workaholic. These stories always make it seem that ml has so much time to be affectionate to mc. CEO types also tend to be arrogant. Such confidence is good for people to believe in you and follow you. But likely this kind of person looks down on others. There’s also a lot of pressure to manage assets and run a company. The ML in irl would be stressed, depressed, and maybe have anger issues. And I don’t get why MC gets so happy over the grandest of houses. Isn’t just decorated, organized space enough? Yeah I really don't know what to do anymore. I'm going to the 10th grade and I barely understand things like fractions/functions, number lines, I barely know my multiplication and lots more, and I've tried re-learning all of this, I've watched videos I've tried asking for help when it was needed I've done everything people would suggest for you to do. Here's the thing. I understand that a lot of yall are understandably angry about the amount of rape and lack of consent portrayed in the yaoi/BL genre. However, I feel like you all are coming at it from the wrong angle. Instead of attacking readers, who are most likely very young and do not have enough sense or media literacy, what you need to do is attack and question the industry enabling this.
Like every burgeoning industry, the webtoon industry is hyper-capitalist and hyper consumerist as fuck. I'm sure there is exploitation of writers going on behind the scene. However, more concerning than that is the fact that they have enough control over writers to make sure that certain tropes that they deem are popular are repeated over and over again.
Lezhin is the main culprit in my eyes. They capitalize very heavily on the BL genre. The Lezhin KR website proudly promotes BL over any other genre. Most of the popular toxic BLs are all fruits of Lezhin. However, if you look at some of Lezhin's BL from 2019, for example, Bongchun Bride, they're very unproblematic and often feature unconventional couples. Lately, however, all they promote and publish are all toxic BLs. In my opinion, after BJ Alex and Painter of the Night became mega popular, Lezhin decided that it has stumbled across a golden goose and probably made sure that its contracted writers follow a certain set of tropes. This is somewhat clear through the storylines of recent BLs like Night Song, where rape is completely unnecessary to the plot but feels as if it had been shoehorned in.
So why are Lezhin stuff so popular? Simple. It's one of the bigger and older webtoon publishers and have enough money and influence to promote the shitfuck out of its upcoming works. There are plenty of non-problematic BLs featured in TappyToon and Bilibili, but they never get as popular, most likely because they do not have as much budget. Its also because I think Lezhin is trying to monopolize the webtoon industry and trying to push out any competition.
So, instead of attacking readers who probably dont know any better, start questioning why certain decisions are made from the top. Perhaps reaching out to the authors and expressing how these tropes are problamtic, or holding a boycott of Lezhin are better ways to go about solving these problems.

Abs are aesthetically pleasing on a universal level. They tell the story of a person who spent a large amount of time dedicating themselves to the discipline of working out, dieting, and learning about your own body. And that story behind a lean-muscular physique is sexy.
My gripe with abs in comics is that they are drawn onto a character like they are simply a character design. In order to be lean an muscular, SO MUCH time and work is dedicated to wearing the fuck out of your body and restricting what you eat. If you are a child and your metabolism is fast, you can eat like shit, workout, and still have muscle mass while being lean because your genetics are good (which is not the majority of people). But as you get older, your metabolism will slow down, making it harder for you to get abs. If you're 28, you don't have abs by waking up, going to work, drinking alcohol with your buddies, party, and go to sleep. You force yourself to fit working out into your lifestyle several days out of the entire week. It's dedication.
The Broader Picture
I don't think illustrators who want to make their characters walking thirst traps are really doing anything wrong, but they can be promoting some problematic beauty standards to the people that read their work. For example, in all of those poor-girl-rich-CEO stories, the CEO guy is pretty young, rich, handsome, and HAS ABS. Being a CEO are a 20-something year old is already stressful enough, but even if that business has generated enough money for you to have enough free time to workout, there's no point. But if a CEO felt as if his money, face, and height wasn't enough to attract a woman, working out hard enough to get abs still takes a lot of fucking time and effort, and months to YEARS to show results. That's what I want artists to portray.
Most of us as comic readers sit on our asses for hours at a time and see good-looking characters that have "perfect bodies" but we don't see the characters really working out to maintain those physiques, let alone dieting, and struggling. We see these characters and say, "Wow that person is hot. I wish I looked like that, but I don't look like that now" not understanding that a real human would have to dedicate a lot of time to look like that. Plus, the way your abs show up is a genetic gamble because 10 people can have the same bodyfat percentage and muscle-mass, but their abs can look completely different. Not only that, but these physiques are portrayed as dominating and strong. But in truth, bodybuilding can genuinely suck the fucking life out of you. (Fun-fact: many men who body-build lose a lot of energy and can develop temporary erectile dysfunction). And in truth, muscular dad-bods can be way stronger. And lean guys with no muscle can have more energy and a better quality of life.
Just know that no matter your sex, gender expression, age, etc, you can still be strong and attractive in your own way. Whether you're ripped or pudgy, weather you're bodyfat percentage is 7% or 32%. Whether you have 2 jobs or whether you're living in your parents' basement. Look at the fucking Paralympics. Try working out more often if you have time and the ability to do so. Take a brisk jog around your block or do squats in your apartment. Do it for your health, and not just for aesthetics.
