Thoughts About Rape In Fiction

I'll state it out loud. I hate rape. Still, that does not mean I'll prohibit others from enjoying reading a manga with rape (if that's really your taste, sure go ahead, I'll just judge you silently behind my screen). What I hate about the yaoi community with regards to rape is that most readers don't even acknowledge when something is rape or not.......   2 reply

These debates/discussions always make me laugh my ass off. You all do realize you're reading soft-core gay porn for women, right? Do you make a habit of deconstructing all the porn you consume? If yaoi isn't porn, why do so many readers hide it like it was their older brother's Penthouse Magazine? Maybe you've never been exposed to porn before? If ......   6 reply

I have read numerous yaoi manga and like 60%-70% of them have rape scenes one way or other but it doesn't bother me that much, yeah it make me sad aometimra by the time I am reading it but I think people should know that its all fiction/fantasy part of story not more than that. Of course there are many people that are enjoying these manga but that ......   reply

I'll star addressing the rape fantasy myth that some users keep repeating, when they have never ever been around with people with those fantasies. and also I'll explain a bit some fact behind the problem of rape an all adult and manga genres. rape is not a yaoi thing, rape is part of all manga and anime adult genres. japan has the biggest rape cult......   1 reply

i don't condone rape and i get extremely uncomfortable when reading it. i also don't like the fetishization of gay men in yaoi which allows this. kinda weird, if you ask me.   3 reply

I feel like some people read my post wrong *face palm* when I mentioned 'other random guy' I meant a character in the story not in real life. I'm not questioning rape in real life but in the story. I know in the end everything is fiction so I'm not really bothered by the rape but in my post I was questioning whether people are hypocrites for think......   2 reply

lol you lowkey called people who read the trope (like me) sickos? lmao. It's pretty bold to assume that people who read such a trope are actually okay with something like that. If i were to answer personally, i half the time don't care about the trope whilst reading not because it's 'always there' or its 'just fiction' but because the subject is ne......   1 reply

I don't care about the rape trope much, I personally find it a lazy way to advance the plot as a writer myself but people are right, it is just fiction. At the end of the day it's a story, it's not deep, people will read what they like.   reply

Mmm I wouldn't say it's hypocritical. People just like what they like. I would guarantee you most people that read yaoi and see that the seme rape the uke would know it's wrong, but it's a fantasy and a safe fantasy because it's written and not experienced. Also there are people that like hardcore stuff too, and that's fine too. I would only be wo......   reply

I honestly wanna know this too. I've been reading bl for years now but fell out of reading manga until I turned 21. As I started reading manga again I got back into bl and realized how many bl stories have the "rape to lovers", "sexual harassment", "blackmail", and "abusive boyfriend being excused as protective" tropes and it fucking kills me. I of......   reply
