Thoughts About Rape In Fiction

It doesn't really matter if you only fantasize about rape or enjoy BDSM and know that it's absolutely disgusting in real life. However, many people actually get influenced thinking that this is acceptable outside of fiction because a lot of it is romanticized.   1 reply

I don't have a problem with r*pe in fiction unless it is romanticized. R*pe is a disgusting thing and no one deserves it so it should be shown in a negative way.   2 reply

"Documentaries about rape"? You mean the ones about how someone committed a crime and went to fucking prison like they're supposed to? Those "documentaries about rape"? Why are we comparing that to bullshit rape romanticization in bl/yaoi, exactly..?   3 reply

This doesn't apply if you don't read anything where the protagonist is in danger (the majority of stories), but wouldn't you rather a more realistic representation of rape rather than a BL where they fall in love? I'm just curious of this because it is widely known many people watch documentaries with rape and murder in them, but shouldn't as many people be stating that shows like that should be banned as well?

If someone has been murdered in a manga, shouldn't that be something to avoid in a book as well? I just don't understand most of these answers in replies to questions like "is it okay to read rape" and what not. Of course, I understand SOME of these replies, about the effects it has on people, the trauma, and how the love for rape can really affect the normalization of it. But then there's people jumping on the wagon to hate on someone because everyone else is doing so. Yes, you shouldn't enjoy rape because it's fucking rape, but reading it doesn't make you a sinner. Most times rape is there to make you pity the victim, not put you onto the rapist. It brings light onto serious things people had to deal with and how it affected them. Of course this topic could be traumatic to people who have experienced it, and to that I say do not read. But to all the people who overall just avoiding it because it's "disgusting" (or at least SAY they do in the comments) should also avoid stories of murder, depression, anxiety, and literally any story were others get hurt. Because it's disgusting your reading a story were someone had a traumatic experience like that. But, if you just like rape and go searching to stories specifically for rape, I really can't defend you man, that's weird even for me.

What do you guys think of this topic?

This is the truth that most BL readers can't swallow up whole.. Rape when used as a plot device to develop "unproblematic romance" is not a-okay at all!! Even if someone has rape fantasies... You want it to be consensual.. I was guilty of tolerating "rape is okay" because of my naiveté.. I think, there are hidden problems that stems the "romant......   1 reply

Bruh the number of times I've started reading something and then they make the love interest sexually assault the mc, bc I guess that's the only way they can consider eachother romantically/sexually. Haha what is getting to know eachother as people and developing feelings because they actually like hanging out together. Like bro if you're not wil......   1 reply

the only thing i find off is that you specified in fiction specifically. absolutley, rape is vile and abhorrent in real life. But fiction isnt real. Rape fetishes are also the most common for women to have, and CNC is a healthy outlet for that. Other ways of practicing it safely without a partner is with erotica. SA survivors are also more prone to......   1 reply

This!!! Just as op said, having rape in a story is fine…SO LONG as the author portrays it properly. Rape isn’t something to be romanticized or sexualized, nor is it just another plot element you can sprinkle on a story and then attempt to sugarcoat it. There’s nothing hot or attractive or adorable about someone being sexually assaulted aga......   1 reply
