I agree to an extent. I think some authors do fetishize gay couples in Yaoi, but there are still many good reads for you out there. I mean, one of my favorite Yaoi mangas is about two grown men who actually LOOK like men. (The manga is called “Never Good Enough” btw). Yeah I hate it when the top says stuff like "you feel better than a girl" "I'm gonna make you pregnant"(when it's not a omegaverse) or bullshit like that it's suuuuuuuper annoying... But there are a lot and I mean A LOT of buffy/manly bottoms out there so you shouldn't generalize ╮(￣▽￣)╭ reply

I think yaoi has slowly moved away from that trope. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen at all, but at least most of the new series i follow either have both characters be fairly “equal” in the body type, and even if they are not, one half is not drawn super “soft” to resemble a female. As a queer women who LOVES femininity, I am a bit tired of the shit feminine men in general get. There are PLENTY of BL (both shounen-ai and yaoi) where the guys are both very much masculine. Some clarifications 1. When I say BL im talking abt yaoi I forgot they're not interchangeable I'm sorry 2. I can hardly think of any I have read lately with that type (may reflect my personal choice though). people don't like seeing 2 men happy in a relationship they like the idea of men kissing/having sex. Authors make the bottom/ML hyperfem to the point he's like a girl, even having the top/2nd ML compare him to one. So many times I've seen them cum from their butt bro.....They give the bottom/ML female anatomy and slap a tiny dick on them. Seeing two masc presenting men(lack of better word) having sex will disgust a lot of ppl who read/write BL. I feel like this is also why a lot of yaoi/BL focuses on sexual aspects rather than relationship. Although you can say yaoi is for smut, het/yuri smut has romantic aspects outside of the sex.
