I'd say there used to be sort of an underlying toxicness in bl, but it was on the decline until stories like BJ Alex, which really just exaggerated existing tropes to the extreme. Stories like BJ Alex were a massive cash cow for Lezhin, so they just take the formula and rinse and repeat. Other companies want a cut of that massive Lezhin audience so......   reply

Its a really glorified thing in the romance genre itself. Well its known more in BL i guess especially with newer works that got popular like lowtide twilight, passion and such. People often brush aside the toxic traits of the characters OR they find it as a positive or attractive trait of them, seeing it as 'hot' and 'sexy' or they just dgaf yknow......   reply
