I live in an Islamic country so if anyone in my family learns that I look at sex I will be doomed just imagine what would they do if they found out that I read gay porn. My first foray into yaoi was ofcourse the more popular/better titles and what I liked about those (compared to shoujo) was how both characters in the relationship actually feel like human beings. I honestly don't know why I like it myself. But while I agree with you that yaoi (except shonen ai) is indeed just gay porn. However, it is more than that. It is a love story. Yaoi is special for me because it reflects more emotions more than other similar categories like hentai, yuri and shoujo. I know, shoujo also has emotions in it but sometimes they add it way too much or the opposite.
