Nope. I don't think that's true. I'm a guy who likes to read yaoi and i have girl-friends who also like to read yaoi. And if someone says women who read yaoi, fetishize gay men, they also mean that men who read yaoi fetishize gay men and t h a t s n o t t r u e. My first yaoi was Junjou Romantica and I started because I was so tired of the same......   reply

that's not true, it is reducing the facts to such simple comparisons. Please give me examples, so I will be able to read that and judge by myself. It can also be said that people who like to read about romances where couples are heterosexual also objectify and fetish them. It is so shallow thinking. maybe it's better to not read at all because I......   3 reply

i dont fetish it, but its enjoyable to read lmao, coming from my own mouth, mind, opinion, or whatever, i dont think i objectify or fetishize gay men since they're just people like the rest of us amirite?, but i read yaoi because i just got bored with romance in general so it was hard finding more animes to watch over time and i became really scare......   reply

Okay well, first off, the whole idea of BL is, in a way, meant to objectify and fetishise gay men. We may want to dispute that with 'plotlines' or 'characters', but the truth is that if you look at the history of BL in Japan in the 80's, it was written specifically to a straight female fanbase. I'm not saying that people who are not straight female......   reply

I was molested as a child, so seeing someone of my gender be sexualized in any way makes me feel dirty and that's why I started getting into BL. BL mangas and animes makes me feel safe and I can enjoy reading/watching romance and perverted stuff without any feelings of disgust (as long as it's not underage ish, nor falling in love with abuser/rapis......   1 reply

For me BL has more diversity in characters characteristics and plots, though it can be cliché like any genre at times. But a lot of heterosexual characters tend to be repetitive, especially the annoying characters and poorly potrayed female leads that are almost always percieved as weak and senseless in unbelievable ways. Its more challenging to......   reply

I personally found shoujo manga to be quite bland, it was cliche and it lacked romance. You rarely find good ones out there but when it came to yaoi, it kinda filled that void. And yes, though it is true that manga and reality are indeed different, I still think that yaoi can express homosexuality to an extent, which is something I like to discover......   1 reply
