I was reading a Shounen Ai Idol Novel (Not manga/etc) and because I was liking it I had to look up who the Main Love Interest was going to be (I love spoilers) and damn did I stumble upon more than I expected - one of the members dies of suicide & it was the cute shy one of the group, I mean I knew it was gonna be heavy with all these dark topic but nooo
Also I kind of had an itch who the love interest was going to be but I needed it confirmed, and yeah no I said bye bye novel it had such potential *sigh*
I went on a rant but did you guys have a story ruined by spoilers before? Or saved you from reading one instead?

Y'all tell me if I'm wrong but I'm speaking from experience. I promise you I wouldn't be reading this crap if it wasn't for corona.
I spent around an hour writing/proofreading this and I can't read it anymore so sorry if my grammar isn't the best or I repeat myself. I haven't written this much in ages but I needed to vent. :)
Tell me if I miss anything if you somehow read it all. Although I know I wouldn't if I were you.
------Ancient Cultivation/Martial Arts stories with a Male MC------
Now I haven't read one since 2020 for the reasons stated below (well mainly harems) so I might not remember everything.
-They can have such a good start, an interesting concept, but they're never delivered well. I always get disappointed with them.
-Plot holes.
-People are always saying crap like, "courTINg dEAtH!!2!!@1!!"
-They give off misogynistic vibes. The writers seem to be the biggest misogynists and it's not it.
-The authors can't write realistic female characters for shit. Even if they can, chances are they'll fall for the MC and become a common character trope. Like those big boobs, no brain, ones.
-Harems in every one. There'll always be a harem even if there's no harem tag. Why? Goddamn I stopped reading them overall because of harems.
------Ancient Cultivation/Martial Arts stories with a Female MC------
Now these'll be more specific since I've read some recently.
-The writers aren't even that good tbh.. There's a lot of filler, problems with the plot's pace and plot holes. I feel like some of them could take classes.
-It feels like every single one of these is the same plot but with slight alterations.
-The step family, there's always a step-family/sister somehow and it annoys the crap out of me.
-Why do they always have to be transmigrated into a general's family or a noble family? I'd love to read a story where a girl is reborn/transmigrated into a commoners family and rises up from there.
-Plot holes.
-They often are later revealed to be the child of a super super prominent family. How do all these girls who were 'fated to be phoenixes' end up in a small country?
-The characters are always born into low-level countries that aren't that developed but they never say that at first. They hype up how great the character is in a pile or trash and then the character slowly travels to higher level countries after becoming top in that country/level. Please if they were that arrogant after being transmigrated into higher-level countries they'd die instantly bitch.
-They were always a top doctor or assassin in their past life.
-Extremely possessive male leads that come from who knows where.
-The leads are always so fucking arrogant; tone it down Jessica/Mark.
-----Modern Time Based Love Stories-----
I'm so tired of these..
-Why is it always, "CEoO's SEcRET wIFE!1@!!" Does every love story have to have the male lead be a CEO? Why can't he do something else for fucks sake.
-The female lead always falls in love with the rich fucker who rapes her. Why do all of them romanticize rape? Why can there be no healthy relationships?
-The words, "dOmInEErINg," "PoweRfUl," and "POsseSIvE," are consistently used to describe the male lead. Please learn some more adjectives.
-The words, "NaIvE," "iNnOcEnt," and "fIerCe," are consistently used to describe the female lead. Once again, they need to learn more adjectives.
-The black card.. After the female lead gets the black card, which she 100% will, she'll have an encounter with a female antagonist in the mall and they'll fight over clothes. You know what happens after that.
-Again the female lead's family is always straight trash or it's later revealed they're actually from a super super prominent family.
-Someone from the male lead's family is going to hate the female lead.
-These fuckers always have amnesia. It can be both the female and male lead or just one.
-The misunderstandings kill me. Communication is key to a healthy relationship. Not to put all the blame on the male leads for this, the female leads need to work on communicating too.
~My criticism for manhua's would be the art. I already talked about the plot and crap since they're adapted from novels. Anyhow, it's bad. The facial expressions and body language is too overexaggerated as is the writing in the novels. It might be what Chinese people like and I genuinely wish the artists and writers the best if they're doing what they love. However, stop with the rape and harems.~
tl;dr: character and plot tropes are abused, overexaggerated writing, plot holes, possessive/rapey male leads, harems, bad art.
Side Note: I know this isn't every single Chinese novel, they're simply what I've noticed after reading what I have. I'm not sinophobic nor prejudiced against Chinese people. I'd welcome any recommendation's y'all have.
