I like to think it's as simple as what's better than one object of interest, is two! Just like how heterosexual men often enjoy lesbian pornography, heterosexual and bisexual women like gay pornography. Therefore, it's expected that the yaoi genre would be so popular.   reply

Personally, I started reading manga before some of the current good shoujo were scanlated so I lean into the yaoi because although there's mostly porn, at least, at least I don't feel like my blood pressure gonna explode because of all the stupid misunderstandings.
