I tried to do some self- study of Japanese, as well as Korean, but I always lose the motivation to continue (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜. However, it would be cool if I could learn it as I've always wanted to travel to South Korea and Japan. I guess the main reason for my interest is due to the influence of K-pop and manga/anime (≧∀≦). well i'm korean so i know korean lmao [i read the raws when there are no more translations XD] i was forced to learn mandarin during primary school but i forgot everything so i only know snippets i tried to learn japanese but gave up bc that takes effort,, languages are so cool though, i wish i can speak another language fluently~   2 reply

I really recommend the Genki books for learning basic japanese. After you've gone through the 2 books you 'd learned basic japanese grammar, hiragana, katakana and about 300 kanji. I currently live in japan and study japanese at a language school and we had those books in the beginning. I'm studying so i can take the JLPT N3 next year without it be......   1 reply

I did some sel-study back then and I can now read and write Hangul. But I cant really understand it yet,, except for some words and phrases... with the help of Kdrama of course. I also just finished memorizing Hiragana and am aiming for Katakana next. Bcos of Anime I know some Japanese words.   1 reply

I did some basic Japanese during uni. The very formal way of speaking, btw. It was fun, but Asian languages wasnt my forte (I'm much better with European languages). I actually failed because my vocab was horrible, but still, a fun and memorable experience. As for Chinese, my parents never bothered teaching me much depsite having Chinese blood. Th......   reply

My major in uni is BA Japanese, starting in Sept. In the meantime I am learning Korean and in uni I want to learn Mandarin :) Korean is easy to learn for me as Korean's and Japanese's grammar is exactly same as my native tongue, Turkish. I learned Japanese through Anime so whenever I hear simple words in Japanese, I understand them except long sentences. I only know a little Korean words because I have Korean classmates plus facebook friends that are fans of Korean Idols like BTS or EXO. 안녕하세요, 바보, or 오모.
