I tried to do some self- study of Japanese, as well as Korean, but I always lose the motivation to continue (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜. However, it would be cool if I could learn it as I've always wanted to travel to South Korea and Japan. I guess the main reason for my interest is due to the influence of K-pop and manga/anime (≧∀≦). I really recommend the Genki books for learning basic japanese. After you've gone through the 2 books you 'd learned basic japanese grammar, hiragana, katakana and about 300 kanji. I currently live in japan and study japanese at a language school and we had those books in the beginning. I'm studying so i can take the JLPT N3 next year without it be......   1 reply

I actually failed because my vocab was horrible, but still, a fun and memorable experience. As for Chinese, my parents never bothered teaching me much depsite having Chinese blood. Th......   reply

I learned Japanese through Anime so whenever I hear simple words in Japanese, I understand them except long sentences. I only know a little Korean words because I have Korean classmates plus facebook friends that are fans of Korean Idols like BTS or EXO. 안녕하세요, 바보, or 오모. Though I'm learning Mandarin or 中文 throughout my ......   reply

I learned some Japanese on my own and later on in university. What I learned on my own were things like hiragana, katakana, some basic kanji, and simple grammar. I think with online resources, you can pick the basics up easily. However, I feel like classes are what help you practice your speaking more, plus it's good to have a teacher who is able t......   reply
