On side note, there is one novel that I read that makes ml like him utterly miserable. I'm going to make it short as possible but basically, the ml is a king in a fantasy world. So every king has a soulmate and is VERY devoted to them and fl is his soulmate but the king is afraid that he would be manipulated by his soulmate so he threw away his heart before he could even meet the fl. In the first life, fl was slandered, tortured, and died a miserable death in front of the world yet the ml did nothing to save her (note that her predicament has nothing to do with ml but he still know she was innocent and can save her with just a flick of a finger but he didn't)
Ironically, the heart that he threw away was the one that saved her. It was eaten by a rat which was eaten by a cat and when the cat died, it enabled the heart to have its own consciousness. It begged to the world to save fl and time rewinded back. Long story short in 2nd lifetime, the fl was saved by the heart, the king got jealous and took back the heart into his own body and make the fl lose her memory or something but turns out the fl was just pretending lose her memory for revenge. It was so satisfying to see her stab the king on their wedding day after making the king believe that she fell for him which she did not. She also mocked the king and left him on his wedding day all bleeding but of course he didn't die.
The fl then want to kill herself bc the heart is gone but decided to continue living for the sake of the heart who gives her second chance in living. When she's about to leave the kingdom, the king begged pathetically and presented the fl his heart in exchange that she doesn't leave. The fl agreed and tried everything possible to give the heart its consciousness back and new original body and there's a lot of angst but in the end, the fl ended up with the heart and not the king.
I think this is the most satisfying revenge for stories with plot similar to black chain (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
