: WOW I did not expect this story to grab me by the throat the way it did.
People are upset about Heiner and that's fully understandable. With the way he tormented Anette and robbed her of agency for an obsession he started all on his own and turned into violence because she was just an ignorant girl and not the saviour he envisioned, it wouldn't be strange for him to never be forgiven. what he did was absolutely horrifying.
But... I genuinely love this as a story of redemption and personal growth, both for Anette and for Heiner. In the end, people change, and feelings change too. I think forgiveness can be incredibly difficult, but anger and hatred truly eat you up from the inside. Forgiveness after both parties has grown wiser and more compassionate is healing. I don't think I'm wording what I'm feeling very well, but I really love Anette and Heiner because they've both done their best to do the right thing and faced themselves and each other wholeheartedly.
