A pathetic homeroom teacher with mommy issues hides his predatory side with a protective façade. I don't see the purpose of this story. Azuma Kaya's attempt to veer into the psychological I guess? But this is bad psychology. Is the message that children who grow up abused and neglected can only hope to be cared for by predators? Huh? Also what do the fish symbolise? My best guess is innocence, but it's unclear. Needless to say, this story is nonsense, but bonus half point because the author seems to be self-aware. There's a discussion in the comments that people shouldn't dislike this simply because it portrays grooming and pedophilia and that its purpose is to be disturbing, which I agree with. A story shouldn't be automatically dismissed because it deals with such topics, but just because a story aims to be disturbing and achieves that doesn't mean it's good. Writing something disturbing is very easy: just portray murder, torture, rape, or a plethora of other hard to stomach subjects. Writing these things is easy, but writing them while saying something worthwhile about them is the difficult part. This is basically Nii-chan by Harada but with a much poorer execution: 1.5/5. (2020).
