It was a misunderstanding, starting with her. When they were about to have sex she accidentally said “gross” out loud. She was saying that to herself abt making moaning sounds (i think) and he thought it was directed at him. He said something mean as a response leading to their breakup. She never realized what she said “gross” and he had to push her to remember. Years later when they end up at the same workplace, they end up as rivals. The antagonism mostly stems from her since she hates him for what happened and thinks the feeling is mutual. On his side, he still likes her but is keeping his distance. His behavior towards him is him following her lead.
