This story hurts so good. If either woman had something that made them feel better that they could pursue other than these doomed relationships, then sure, they'd make better choices. But the whole point is that they don't. They've failed to reap the rewards society promises you for obeying the rules.

you could call this a yuri subtext battle shounen, with chainsawman like comedy and darkness. the two most important fighters are both women... and they're roommates! not only that but they have a gap moe cute attack dog monster they're raising together. my girlfriend really admires this artist's knack for character designs. i think they're good overall but using attractiveness to indicate main character energy is a bit sad. to its credit, any fanservice shown is in extras and never in their canonical designs.

how good i think this is will probably be determined by where the plot goes after the two girls' falling out. the very period accurate taisho setting makes me very happy, and i like the characters dooming themselves with their ignorance of each other.

i like this a lot more than i expected to. magic being done as part of a partnership makes for a better plot than traditional fantasy rpg inspired isekai. it's sweet having two insecure women who truly believe in each other.
