Kirakira Shite mo, Shinakute mo
I love this! It’s so refreshing how this manga shows the other side of being gay, where the characters aren’t super handsome ikemen—liking someone and having things not end up like a picture perfect fairy tale. maybe a love goes unfulfilled. ACK but i just thoroughly appreciate how realistic this is. it explores a different side of BL that definitely should be expressed more often imo
Good Work Watase-san
this is pretty interesting! i like that the dom is a sub and the sub is a top (initially). i always wondered why subs HAD to be bottoms and vice versa. it’s also my first time seeing a major character in the dom/subverse actually be a switch. plot-wise it’s pretty basic. the author making them both switches near the end is interesting to me. you often see physically switches but not so much mental switches. it does kind of feel like a cop out, though, because it kind of erases what made this story so unique in the first place, a sub wanting to top a dom. I’d like to see this idea expanded upon in a different way with better execution. this was cute, though
My "Toy" is Connected to My Best Friend
This is just like a melodrama. Miscommunication galore. There’s a lot of sex mixed with guilt. I liked the aspect where the dark haired MC is like the heir to a shrine. I found that part very beautiful. It’s basically rape, and the plot is just pretty weird… I really liked the extra at the end of volume two with them being kind of awkward at the start of their relationship (after being friends for so long). I would’ve liked to see more of that fluff instead of the overly drawn out, bland drama
Love is Found 2 Meters Underground
8 Ahh I really love this. You don’t really see archeology mixed with ML. This is really interesting and cute! Loved the metaphors/general writing style. I liked how the leads are pretty open about being gay.
Run Away With Me, Girl
Finally not a tragic yuri… but still pretty angsty, though. I really loved this! It really showcases the very real struggles of lesbianism, having to deal with heteronormativity, homophobia, misogyny, etc. I thought it was quite refreshing that the FL is pregnant, but it’s not seen as something to be ashamed of. The storytelling is so beautiful and realistic, and even the FL’s abusive husband has trauma like he isn’t just some one dimensional bad man interfering with their relationship (though he’s still a jerk)
A Rom-Com Fantasy With My Idol Is Out of the Question!
