I'm Not Your Hero or Anything
this was weirdly intriguing. the pacing was a little off, but i liked the vibes of this. the story had this strange, mature feeling to it. idk why but it reminded me of chainsaw man lol. especially the denji-looking ahh protagonist… anyway, the art was gorgeous, but the characters ultimately fell flat. what was the point of the cam girl storyline? this needed more development, which is a same because there definitely was potential
Modernist
ALRIGHT. this is def morally debatable. in the first chapters i kept going ehhh bc ho-il kept being compared to his older, dead brother. but it also improves, or is going to improve i think. it’s very interesting, and i think it capture the tragedy of the brother’s death quite well in that is show how both the mc and ml are affected by it. the storytelling is beautiful imo
Concealing Sacred Simplicity
22 I really like this! The setting is immediately what drew me in. In a world where there’s magic, I usually expect some sort of medieval backdrop, but this surprisingly is more modern. Maybe mid 1900s-ish I’m not quite sure. I love the desaturated yet warm art style, too. Mature lead characters are always my jam! Kind of reminds me of “Turning” a little.
The Man on the Other Side
This was an interesting, introspective read! The MC is such an over thinker and self-deprecating guy that the whole story feels awkward because it is told from his perspective. In that sense, this was definitely more relatable than I’d like to admit. It’s a semi-unique twist on another wise typical romance trope where the MC is just a “normal” guy, and the love interest is this celebrity. Anxiety-filled yet cute read at the end.
White Night Bitter Porn
Eh, this was alright. Like others have said, average fluff with smut. Surface level plot. I really liked the ML, though. He’s earnest, honest, and overall such a green flag?? He was to stop… when the MC said “stop” lol. Other than that, this isn’t very memorable. Tons of stories are like this nowadays. A lot of this author’s works are mid. The art was pretty good I’ll say.
Grab the Stars
The ML (black haired guy, bottom) annoyed me sm. Bro has the nerve to block the Mc but then miss him like what… Probably one of the only good things about this was the art. The “angst” didn’t feel that genuine to me. The ghosting was just not it. All the conflict was just cliché mumbo jumbo.
Sankaku Twilight
Really cute! Nontoxic relationship. Nothing groundbreaking. Wataru really got on my nerves like bro manipulates Miki’s feelings and confesses only AFTER he’s moved on?? Red flag. Aside from him, the story is pretty fluffy and basic. Decent read.
Literature Boy
7/10 Very realistic, relatable manhwa. You can really connect to the two leads and identify with their struggles. From that standpoint, it’s well written. As a romance, this is pretty lacking. It feels like we’re being told that the leads are romantic, they’re this or that, etc, but I don’t think the author sufficiently expresses their supposed chemistry. Like the leads’ relationship, the story also feels unstable with the constant switching back and forth from the present to the past. It’s not the worst execution I’ve seen. I personally DESPISED the second couple like you will never convince to feed into the teacher x high schooler bull. They were just unneeded. This story gave me mixed emotions and had a bland aftertaste. Ending is also kind of abrupt and offered no resolution to Sunwoo’s major plagiarism conflict. I sound harsh, but it’s ultimately because I think this could’ve been so much more than it is.
Broken-Hearted One-Night Love ~This Man Is Cunning and Sweet~
Honestly, this is pretty cute! I like the idea of a love that isn’t destined but one that kind of just happens naturally on its own. Mid though. It would’ve been cool if the leads’ backstories had been fleshed out more instead of all the smut. The ending isn’t very satisfying, but it does stick to the natural, slice of life feel that this manga has.
