WEAKNESS
Yet another toxic GL from this series. Is it bad? I guess it depends on your taste and morals. This includes coerced sex and blackmail. In the end, the leads sink into depravity together. The pseudo-incest was meh. Maybe it was the translation, but it fell flat for me even with the dark themes. Great art and smut tho 2.5/5
Houkago no Etude
This manga is so freaking good… The leads are so cute together; I love their dynamic sm. The height difference? The flirting?? Gimme more pls!! The ballet aspect is really well done (the art is so *beautiful*). Almost reminds me of some sports dancing manga like ‘Welcome to the Ballroom’ and ‘Ten Dance.’ I wish hell upon the freaking p3dophile teacher guy. I hope the author addresses the grooming properly because that’s a black stain on a manga I otherwise really like. Anyway, I love the leads’ passion for dancing and the themes of youth/growth/chasing after your goal.
Yoake no Joshou
I came for the cover (Arun is so fracking hawt), but the first couple wasn’t that bad! I liked how it was actually mutual love all along, and it showed us their relationship as adults. Very wholesome and sweet. Also realistic! I appreciated how the author included their fears of being rejected as a gay couple. Kiichi’s brother’s love story was also pretty sweet. Loved their dynamic. Anyway, this taught me I need more Indian rep in BL!
Meruhen na Otoko tachi
Ahhh this was so cute! The premise was funny (met on a dating app, accidentally lied about gender), but they sorted it out. The ML was indeed sus at first, but I’m glad this didn’t turn into dub con. I found the angst to be quite realistic. The MC was hurt, but he hid it because he wanted their relationship to continue. *sobs* Anyway, the art was saur good. Loved the communication (aside from the misunderstanding). This manga subtlety broke a lot of conventional BL tropes (the ML was the little spoon like whatttt). Good read! Glad they’re happy
I Wanna Quit Being a Hitman!
Really good! I thought it would just be about a hitman, but this slightly delves into a dystopian society. The MC didn’t choose her occupation really. Her identity as a refugee and her unfortunate situation is quite telling of the real world. I wouldn’t confine this manga merely to the genre GL. This is definitely a lot more than just romance (though I wanted more *sniffs*). It’s a comedy, thriller, romance, dystopia all wrapped into one. The themes of morality were also strong here. Despite this not being the longest manga, all the characters are quite nuanced from the MC to her girlfriend’s father, a priest, to the other two hitmen targeting the MC. I almost wish the ending wasn’t so open because I want to know what happens after the conflict is “resolved.” Anyway, awesome read! 11/10 If you haven’t read this yet, what are you doing…
Milady Just Wants to Relax
This is furry propaganda. Jk jk. They were not kidding about the reverse harem tag in this one. Literally everyone in the story likes the MC. It’s the same cliché plot where the MC undervalues herself and actually has quite a lot of merit. I want to love this, but her age really puts me off. Wdym she’s 16 and one of the potential MLs is 24??! Barf. Everyone except the MC is so annoying. The characters are all kind of flat… no growth happening. If you don’t mind that, this is a pleasant, fluffy read.
A Deal With My Fake Husband
cliché premise, but i love the ml here. he’s goofy AND hot. it’s refreshing how even tho they’re a contract couple, they don’t act overly stringent. a nice twist on a familiar plot 30
He’s Not Just a Pretty Face
Okay, whoever dropped this because of the “bad” art… I feel bad for you because it really wasn’t that bad? The characters just had realistic proportions. Plus, the recent chapters look so good! If you’re feeling hesitant to read this because of the art, please don’t. Anyway, this story is definitely frustrating at times with the MC’s indecisive character (and the leads getting interrupted at pivotal moments), but I’d say this story’s redeeming quality is the ML and the other supporting characters. The ML is SO freaking refreshing. He’s not afraid to admit he’s done wrong, he doesn’t let the MC go, and he’s so, so honest. The drama is kinda cliché at times, but again, the supporting characters make up for it. Characters I thought were potential love rivals actually (crown prince and hyme) aren’t but still support the MC and her own romance. The storytelling has above average execution! The leads are so cute; they’re head over heels for each other.
This Love is a Traves-tea?!
16 i don’t know why, but i dislike the ml for some reason… and it’s not bc of his beard. i thought this would have more commentary on patriarchy, but the author just threw that plot point away.
