Super Lovers

Ongoing | abe miyuki | 2009 released

Ah, Super Lovers. This is the series that truly reawakened my long-dormant interest in yaoi/shounen-ai manga after... 10 years or more? Binging on Free! and Ao no Exorcist djs out of boredom and curiosity on another site eventually led me here, where Super Lovers reminded me just how much more appealing it is to have plot and actual character/relationship developments. Lost a lot of sleep blasting through all 8 volumes in 2-3 days, then wandered over to the author's other major work, Komatta Toki ni Wa Hoshi ni Kike, to try and get over the Super Lovers withdrawal symptoms. Being swept away again by that series instead over the next half week (marathoning 8 or so volumes a day) meant running out quickly and having to experiment with other series - Seito Kaichou ni Chuukoku, Konya no Nemurenai, Seven Days, Hana no Mizo Shiru, Junjou Romantica... and now I find myself a legit fujoshi. Thanks, Super Lovers!

Just the kind of brotherly angst I like, plus a jealous, possessive and desperate seme hits the spot. Wish they had more time being together and happy rather than wasting so much time going round in circles & then a rushed ending. At least it was cute.

LMAO "looks like you opened a new door!" The last story (Piano Lesson) was awesome and seriously cute, I want more of it! 1st story was okay as well, but I didn't like the 2nd story with the stepbros - sorta unpleasant how the lil bro was pretty much manipulating the older bro.

This deals with very serious themes in a surprisingly sensitive manner - sexual abuse, PTSD, trauma-induced sexual relationships, taboo steosibling incest - definitely a minefield of disturbing trigger topics and not for people who want a light read. Kaname and Souichirou's healing relationship is more beautiful because of this though; the downside is that the author spent too long showing us Kaname and Masato's dark past (enough to leave a sour taste) and unnecessary conflict and drama at the end when time would have been better spent developing the early part of Kaname and Souichiro's romance so that it wasn't so... quick a process. Still, the character developments are great.
