I like this story because it doesn't lean into showing the bf too much. He's the victim in the story, but it's not about him, so over-emphasizing that angle would dampen the satisfaction of seeing two people who clearly still love each other get back together. Also, the (now ex-)bf gets his own story! Which helps quite a lot.
