Kamisama to Tobenai Tsukai
SHOUNEN AI - LIGHT READ: 5/9/2020, REREAD: 1 time(s) SUMMARY: Shin, born to a race of winged messengers, faces life as an outsider due to the tiny deformed wings on his back. Flightless, he endures ridicule and loneliness. His people tend to the needs of the Gods who reside in the same mountains, and unexpectedly, he is tasked with the care of the mysterious God residing at Mountain 32. A troubling future looms ahead as Gods and Messengers have begun to disappear without trace. What danger awaits Shin and his people, and the Gods they care for? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHARACTERS: MC - Shin ML - Baku (The God on Mountain 32) SC(s) - Nushi-Sama (The God on Mountain 1), Sanzashi, The Water God (The God on Mountain 6), Yatsude, Fuji, Shino, and Nagi (the three kids) REVIEW: I absolutely adored reading this. The art is gorgeous and the chemistry between Shin and Baku is perfection. I almost cried when I was reading Chapter 5, because I felt the pain Baku felt when he decided to lock away Shin's memories of him. I mean, he was preventing the one he was in love with from remembering him. The author did well with the setting, too. I also liked the side characters a lot. Sanzashi, although he seems like an antagonist at first, is really nice. He's just a bit too serious which makes him seem mean. Nushi-sama was also an enjoyable character. He was very entertaining to read about, especially with his interactions with Sanzashi. And I do hope Yatsude and The Water God finally get together. Reading about how she and Yatsude got to know each other made me kind of proud of Yatsude. I also hope that the three kids grow up nicer, they kind of feel like jerks, but the funny kind.
Eyes speak more love than the mouth
SHOUNEN AI - LIGHT READ: 7/9/2020, REREAD: 0 time(s) SUMMARY: Having moved schools frequently throughout his childhood, Fujino has perfected the art of the false smile. Now his fifth school, his well-mannered smile is safely helping him make new friends, but one day, on the school roof, he finds a scarred boy sleeping there. That boy is the "Mad Dog", the student all his classmates are afraid of. While Fujino is observing him, the boy opens his eyes, and then... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHARACTERS: MC - Fujino Shuuhei ML - Tsukada Soutarou (Mad Dog) SC(s) - Sasaki (Mob A), Watanabe (Mob B), Rika, Soutarou's Grandma, delinquents from Omi High REVIEW: This is a very pure and light-hearted manga. I feel like many people can relate to Fujino in the sense that they have some sort of mask on when talking to others. Soutarou is also a nice character. He gets into many misunderstandings that Fujino doesn't see, rather hears of in the rumors about him. However, despite the differences between them (given the fact that Fujino is the type to "fake it till you make it" while Soutarou just speaks his mind), their relationship is still lovely. I enjoyed watching Fujino suddenly harbor feelings for Soutarou, it's much more relatable since almost everyone's had a sudden crush. It also makes sense, considering the fact that Soutarou is probably the only person he's let his mask down for. The side characters, minus the delinquents from Omi High, are hilarious. Especially Sasaki. He already accepts the fact that he's Mob A. Soutarou's Grandma is nice too. She gives off the serene vibe that you'd expect from elderly people, but don't get in real life.
Yorimichi (KAZUKI Rai)
SHOUNEN AI - LIGHT READ: 5/9/2020, REREAD: 1 time(s) SUMMARY: A realistic story about a lot of what ifs and struggling with doing the opposite of what family and society may expect or accept. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHARACTERS: MC: Sarukawa Makoto ML: Inui Kenta SC(s): None REVIEW: I enjoyed reading this story. It is a very realistic story about the struggles of doing what you want in life even if society might shun it. The romance, although there wasn't much of it, was very smooth. Inui is a very good person. He is kind, sociable, and a person that anyone could come to love. He suits Sarukawa a lot. In a way, his presence, along with Sarukawa's, can be seen as a birdcage. Sarukawa would be the bird, that much is obvious. Society would be Sarukawa's birdcage, trapping him from doing what he wants in life. And Inui would be the person who frees them, which is very romantic in my opinion. All in all, this is a great story about doing what you want in life.
One Reason Why He Hates Me
SHOUNEN AI - LIGHT READ: 5/9/2020, REREAD: 1 time(s) SUMMARY: Seowoo is head over heals in love with Doyoung, except there seems to be a major problem... Doyoung hates him. After a love fairy visits Seowoo, he's given a chance to make Doyoung fall in love with him, but only on one condition--he needs to find out the one reason why he hates him. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHARACTERS: MC: Han Seowoo ML: Cha Doyoung SC(s): Kwon Jaeshik, Amor REVIEW: This is a very sweet story. Although there was a big misunderstanding between Seowoo and Doyoung, through their struggles they managed to get together in the end. I think the misunderstanding between the two of them is very funny though. I normally read stories where the ML gets very embarassed in front of the person they like, so seeing Doyoung getting very mean in front of the Seowoo is hilarious. Amor is a great character too. I can just imagine him talking in a low deadpan voice. All in all, this is a very cute story that I would definitely reread if I was sad.
