Inio-chan's Cool Japan
Haru ni Kaeru
I love Kunieda Saika so much. I wish all of her work were translated. It seems like she hasn't written anything new for a while, either. I hope I see more of her stuff soon. I'm obsessed. This was an interesting little collection. So far, two chapters haven't been translated yet, so we'll see if that ever happens. Fingers crossed. I liked the first one the most out of the ones that were here, I think. Kinda weird and sad, definitely sorta creepy ending. Like, creepy uncle literally, not creepy as in horror. Hope the other two are translated someday.
Sacrifice Mansion
Yeah, you can tell this was her/his first story. I like this mangaka's typical approach to dark humor and the sinister feeling underlying the other stories. This one was just clumsy and obvious. It was kind of funny, just the way that the characters start off, but nothing was ever explained, and there was nothing original here. Bummer. I wouldn't start with this one if you want to enjoy this author, though I have to say that most of the work is for those who appreciate the morose beneath the seemingly cheerful and innocent.
Kuromachi (Koike Nokuto)
Peephole (Takesu Yaya)
Castehate
WTF. This is so screwed up. ...But I like it. I'm just glad that one part was a fake out, or I would have had to rage quit. That's like the worst kind of violation of the bros before hoes code. Like, seriously? No piece of ass is worth letting someone eat your best friend. XD Anyway, this is obviously a kinkfest for the mangaka, as it squeezes in so many fetishes that aren't particularly common in yaoi. Not that I'm complaining, as a few of them are kinks of my own that I so rarely see. This story is definitely odd, and the cruelty of it is kind of getting to me, but I'm intrigued.
Dogeza, Shite Kudasai.
These were all really weird and mostly disjointed, though the twist at the very end of the first story made me chuckle, and the final exchange of the second one made me laugh a little, too. Each oneshot involves a psychotic person, usually more than one, which is played for comedy in the first two, but takes a messed up turn in the third. I got the feeling that we were still supposed to be laughing, but it was so sad and mean. Like, moral of the story, never be nice to anyone. After that, though, it doesn't seem to follow any sort of pattern other than the "no happily ever after" theme. Mostly unrequited love throughout, though the mood really changes. That final story made me cry, despite my best efforts. It was just so pointlessly sad. Is this guy not aware that gay men can also have children? Adoption isn't an imaginary thing. Anyway, sad and weird, rather abrupt, pretty uncomfortable. Mixed with strange humor? That about sums it up, haha.
Harami Bara
Wtf, never have I read something that was SO shitty and SO beautiful at the same time. The art is gorgeous, and I want to keep reading, but my god. It was gross enough when they were raping him left and right (and lol at the guy saying it isn't fun to watch when it isn't consensual like, uh, excuse me? What do you call the last dozen times you've been watching AND participating?), but when he told the brothers that when he was almost gang raped, he felt bad for THEM, I was like, I'm out. Flipping through, I see it only gets more disgusting. "Semen! I want semen!" Honestly, weird as it is, I'd be fine if it hadn't been rape from the start. If for whatever reason, he'd been into it, and they'd all come together to make a baby, fine. The way he acts during sex is creepy, but whatever. It's the fact that this was rape for the first half, then they all just pretend it never happened that makes all the other creepy stuff that much creepier. The youngest brother seems mentally disabled, and they're all just total freaks with no redeeming qualities beyond being drawn beautifully. This woman needs a writer to help her art find the outlet it deserves. Cause, believe me, having a fragrant anus is not as sexy as you seem to think it is, ma'am.
