Escape (kyuugou)

Complete | Kyuugou | 2007 released

Read this again to be sure of how it all went, but yeah, pretty much as I remembered. This is a sad one. At least it doesn't go on long enough for them to live happily ever after, which I hope is not the natural conclusion to such a violent rape. But we all know how yaoiland works. For what was here, though, it's a sad, interesting story about obsession, denial, and unrequited love.

An Uncomfortable Truth

Complete | EErun | 2016 released

Interesting so far. Not sure what my rating will be later, but I like the build up at this point. Definitely creepily obsessed with his older brother, but it's sad that his brother changed a few of the things he used to do out of embarrassment. That little moment when he quickly drops his younger brother's hand... I hope it stays interesting.

Host is down

Complete | nishin masumi | 2016 released

Haha, I like those weird, dark turns. Definitely a strange oneshot, think it could have benefited from being longer, had some clarity issues here and there, but it wasn't hard to understand. I appreciate that it wasn't a typical story.

Namida Kareru Na

Ongoing | ando romeda | 2016 released

Hm. Beautiful art, and it has a dash of the hurt/comfort stuff that I'm really into, but it's kind of rushed and confusing, so I'm a little confused by how emotionally invested so many people are. I feel bad for Maya, but he's with this dude now, and it seems like things are gonna be fine. I guess I just wish it had been longer before it all got fixed. I needed more time to grow attached to the character. But it's pretty, so four stars rather than three.

Koko Wa Yasashii Niwa

Complete | enzou | 2016 released

Aww, this is really sad so far! I want them to help heal one another, damn it! But I'm glad it didn't just happen immediately. I hope it continues to unfold nicely and doesn't become rushed and shallow.

Snow Kingdom Manhua

Ongoing | cao tang wo long sheng | 2016 released

Very beautiful so far, though a very short chapter. The translation is a little off, but it isn't so bad that it's too hard to understand. I get the general concept, but I feel like the first few pages are a little confusing. Hopefully it updates in the near future.

Koujitsuei no Tobira

Complete | Shoowa | 2000 released

Noooooooo I want more! I want to keep reading about this sort of thing. I feel like 99% of yaoi has no real plot beyond the romance. I would have loved to have seen this as a longer series. Lovely art, sweet character relations. I have a few questions about some of the confusing aspects, but I left the story feeling satisfied. Very sweet, really glad I read it. EDIT: Crap, now I realize why it was confusing. This is a spin off of another work. I forgot that I'd been meaning to read the other one first. Oh well, I suppose it didn't spoil too much.

Peach Love

Gah, this is exactly what I've been looking for! Since it's only the prologue so far, I'm really scared about where it's gonna go, but I hope it stays awesome. I've been dying to find some good BL with a solid plot and lots of action/fighting, with good art, and BL in the background. I wish there were more things like that, but even BL with plot isn't usually violent and actiony and all that fun stuff. Or if it is, it's really short, like one volume. I just wish BL could be just like shounen manga and anime, only instead of the very slashy moments throughout, it's legit BL and we aren't pretending those two guys aren't doing it.

Hai Kaburi no Otoko

Complete | Azumi Tsuna | 2000 released

Wow, that was the twist I was hoping for, but I wasn't sure if I'd get it. I feel like the first shot of his face kind of makes you wonder, though, haha. Not sure if this is a oneshot or not, and it's screwed up either way, but it was a good read.

The Demon Ororon

Complete | hakase mizuki | 1999 released

I really loved Demon Flower, which has a bittersweet ending itself, and I know this mangaka's style is to kill everyone as much as possible, especially sweet and innocent characters that stumble into the frame (I've never read a shoujo manga with so much graphic murder and torture of children), but the ending petered out so oddly. I've owned all four manga since they came out when I was in high school, but I only now read it on here, and I have to wonder if she'd meant to continue this but then it didn't work out, because even compared to her other abrupt endings, this was like she walked off a cliff mid-sentence. Plus, I hate it so much when a character is like, "You're all I care about! I don't have anyone else!" when friends of theirs are literally dying all around them to protect them. Seriously, bitch? You have no one else? The ending was a miss for me. It could have been more powerful, but in the confusion it just fell flat. 2.5 stars overall. EDIT: Apparently there's a follow up out there that she wrote in 2007. I had, in my delirious, sleep-deprived state, thought it was a continuation for Demon Flowers, though I'm not sure how that would have worked, and I got super excited. Now I'm a little sad, but I'm hoping it gets translated eventually, because this ending is so random. We need a follow up.
