Choco Strawberry Vanilla

Complete | psyche delico | 2000 released

It's a really messed up story with a very unhealthy relationship from beginning to end, but it works for me somehow. I don't usually like the way abusive/manipulative behavior is often treated as romantic in Yaoi-land, but I think the story here is at least semi-aware of how screwed up the relationship is here. Not that there are three of them, but that it's such a strange, controlling, pushy, co-dependent sort of relationship. Still, I'm glad that it ended on a happy note. I would love to read more involving these three, as long as they always end up together in the end.

Thirsty for Love

Complete | takaguchi satosumi | 2001 released

Very sad in ways, very screwed up in other ways, but I liked it back when I first read it. It's messed up, and there's no love or kindness really, but it still resonates as an emotional story.

Kareshi to Ore to Ore no Kouhai

Ongoing | PSYCHE Delico | 2000 released

Man, I *adore* love triangles that turn into threeway relationships. That is so rare. Obviously this mangaka is fond of that herself, since this wasn't a one time theme for her. But I would have liked to see more of these guys. Though there was some coercion, this was a lot less rapey than the other one, so it'd be nice to see things unfold on a healthier note. Eh, oh well, a girl can wish.

Ryoute Ni Darling

Complete | uzuki jun | 2011 released

The guys were both on the pushy side, of course, but not as bad as it usually is in yaoi. The chemistry wasn't as strong as it has been in the few other threeway relationships I've read, but I liked the characters and thought it was cute. I hope we get to see more of them and how it's all working out. And it's Yaoi-land, so I suppose we can forgive the fact that the one guy tried to date rape him.

Kedamono Hatsujouki!!

Complete | wada mayuko | 2014 released

I probably would have given this less stars based on the first two chapters, but I really like the sexual interaction between the two semes. It's nice to see everyone getting it on with everyone. The endless rape that is never dealt with I could do without, but I feel like the manga got better as it went along. I liked the student and teacher one, even though it was short and abrupt, mostly because of the teacher's "yeah, why not" attitude, which made me laugh. The brother thing... It was sort of random, very short, so I don't really get the point of it being in there. But whatever. Decent manga. I would have given it two stars if it were just more of the first two chapters throughout, but three and a half stars for making things a bit more interesting.

Pat-rush

Complete | draw two | 2014 released

Very odd, but kind of amusing. There are some common yaoi things that I don't like, such as the "just pretend it's a girl" thing, and this takes it all to a new, bizarre level, but it wasn't a horrible experience. I'd read more about these two in a less porny setting.

Ikujinashi No Spectator

Complete | yamamoto ataru | 2015 released

That was... a very odd story. Kind of cute, but definitely weird. I liked the second one more because there was no rape in it. I like elements of the first one, but nonconsent isn't erased by future consent, and it bugs me. But whatever, the author clearly has a thing for very odd love triangles. The manga treats some stuff too lightly, but what else is new when it comes to BL? It doesn't surprise me, but I still don't like it. Anyway, it was entertaining, and I did like some of the cute twists on certain tropes. Everyone was an asshole in the first story, so at least they were more likable in the second.

Deichuu no Hasu

Complete | Tamekou | 2014 released

This is the only kind of incest I can read--the type that acknowledges how sick it is and approaching it with that twisted, psychological perspective. When it's treated as an everyday thing in a story, it weirds me out. (To each their own, of course! It's fiction. Just not my thing.) The story was interesting and well done, and I just love her art. But I'm not sure I buy the twist. The fact that people said there was a twist at all clued me into what it probably was, so I read the story with the assumption that... well, no spoilers if you can't guess. Anyway, I was right, and I feel like it was kind of reaching compared to the other complex stuff. I was a little disappointed that it tried to be extra twisted when it was one of the few stories where a rape victim flat out accuses their attacker of rape. It's like no one wants to use that word in stories, and half the time the victim ends up comforting the attacker. But that's yaoiland for you, I guess. Regardless, it was definitely a creepy, twisted, sad, and interesting read. I enjoyed it, even if the twist was kinda meh for me. It's a messed up story, and it *knows* it's messed up. The intention is never to paint any of this as normal or all right. (The violence, manipulation, and games, I mean.) So yeah, 4.5 stars.

Harami Bara

Complete | HASHIBA Mizu | 2000 released

Wtf, never have I read something that was SO shitty and SO beautiful at the same time. The art is gorgeous, and I want to keep reading, but my god. It was gross enough when they were raping him left and right (and lol at the guy saying it isn't fun to watch when it isn't consensual like, uh, excuse me? What do you call the last dozen times you've been watching AND participating?), but when he told the brothers that when he was almost gang raped, he felt bad for THEM, I was like, I'm out. Flipping through, I see it only gets more disgusting. "Semen! I want semen!" Honestly, weird as it is, I'd be fine if it hadn't been rape from the start. If for whatever reason, he'd been into it, and they'd all come together to make a baby, fine. The way he acts during sex is creepy, but whatever. It's the fact that this was rape for the first half, then they all just pretend it never happened that makes all the other creepy stuff that much creepier. The youngest brother seems mentally disabled, and they're all just total freaks with no redeeming qualities beyond being drawn beautifully. This woman needs a writer to help her art find the outlet it deserves. Cause, believe me, having a fragrant anus is not as sexy as you seem to think it is, ma'am.

Osomatsu-san Dj - Gomenne, Kaa-san

Complete | q9 (agata) | 2015 released

I'm not familiar with the anime this is based on, which is how I prefer it if I'm gonna read a doujinshi. This was a strange, dark little tale that had potential. There were things I liked, because sick and twisted in the right way is great, but it was sort of canceled out a bit by some of that other weird, yaoi stuff where the blow is softened with bizarre allusions to love or some crap. Rape is rape, bitches. Still, it was intriguing, and the art is pretty. I wish doujinshis weren't oneshots as a rule.
