Sumomo (harada)

Complete | harada | 2014 released

Ugh, poor Momo. So fucked up. He went through SO much. This is just another chapter of that. I'm so glad that in Yatamomo we finally got to see the moment where he stops the facade and lets himself cry, truly mourn the awful things he's experienced. Also, his mom is horrible, but I like the concept of her. I would have liked to have seen more of her, like her own spinoff of her life and what not. Harada is pretty amazing in a lot of ways, and one of those ways is that her female characters are always just as interesting and often just as fucked up. Not super common for yaoi.

Haru ga kita

Complete | Mochino Kome | 2017 released

Aw, what a very sweet, sad little story. I wish a lot of elements had been longer and more fleshed out. The stalker part was way too rushed. The reveal had me excited, but then it was just over. I think the story would have benefited having a few volumes to really explore the struggle between the identity of Haru/Sakura, etc. But still, sweet story, and I love me some hurt/comfort, so five stars.

Yokosu Inu, Mekuru Yoru

Ongoing | Nobara Aiko | 2000 released

Noooooo, update soon, please! I so rarely find manga that truly scratches that hurt/comfort itch. I crave this sort of thing. It's so dark and beautiful and messed up. It made me cry, but in just the right way. I'm not sure what to expect in the future, but I really hope that there's an update soon. I'm worried this has been abandoned completely, since it's been a while. There are so many things I love about this story. I wish there were more like it out there. At the same time, I wish that love triangles didn't have to end in someone "choosing." Why can't he be with both of them? They're all fucked up anyway. They're all so damaged, especially the ukes. You can't entirely blame them for doing stupid, selfish things, given the way they've been taught to survive. Anyway, I'm going to die if this isn't updated.

Oyasuminasai No Ato Wa

Complete | kabano sakadachi | 2015 released

Hm. I liked it in ways, but I feel like it had a lot of potential to be better. There were also some frustrating, rushed elements, and I felt like things were resolved way too easily. It was very sad when that teacher got fired because of a misunderstanding, though. And the way that the uke was treated didn't seem to be as much of a focus later. I would have liked to have seen more of that. Anyway, it was sweet, and it had a happy ending, so hey. Plus it's rare to see an omegaverse that actually focuses on the kids or pregnancy, so that was interesting.

Kurui Naku No Wa Boku No Ban

Complete | kusabi keri | 2016 released

I liked it, but that end with the condom drinking made me dry heave. Why? WHY? Anyway, I think there were a lot of moments that could have been more detailed, and I would have liked to have seen the main pair fall for one another in a way that was less abrupt. There wasn't enough on their emotions from the start, just sexual harassment, then suddenly love. I wish there'd been way more with the ex-boyfriend, too. I like what a sadist he was. But I wish they'd touched more on why he just left out of nowhere and never wanted to mark him. It seemed odd. At any rate, I look forward to the sequel finishing, because it's only partially done, and Utou deserves a bit of happiness, I think. If he can actually get it. x_x

Midarana Omega wa Koi wo Shinai

Complete | Yashiki Shima | 2019 released

"My bad." Lmao. I liked it for what it was so far. Even though it's kind of weird, it's not bad for omegaverse. At least the seme didn't want to do that to him, though apologizing in that way is pretty bizarre. Also, where was the injection earlier? I'm curious to see how this unfolds, though, especially since the pimp guy has history with the seme. Looking forward to chapter two.

Sekai No Owari Ga Furu Yoru Ni...

Complete | Gokurakuin Sakurako | 1996 released

Weird, but not as bad as I thought it would be based on some of the earlier elements. Sometimes I love this mangaka's art, and sometimes it's kinda meh. This one shifts back and forth, but it's kind of on the meh side. The plot could have been better. The ending is kind of weird and ambiguous. But at least they tried to include some intrigue. If it had been polished, I would have liked it more, but I'll give it a 3.5 for effort.

Akaneshinchi Hanaya Sange

Complete | Renaissance Yoshida | 2007 released

Huh. That was a very strange, very convoluted manga. There were things I actually liked about it, despite all of the weirdness inserted here and there. I think the ending confused some people because it's so abrupt, then it's followed by a bunch of "afterwards" type stuff. The story ends with both of the original couple realizing they were both in love, and the asshole one deciding to leave everything behind. It also means the new couple stays together. Everything after that is snippets of things in the past, or personal introspection. I actually kind of love "second love" stories with all the heartbreak that comes from the loss of a first love, then the healing that comes after with a person who actually treats you right. This is such a weird story, and it's all over the place, so I can't say that it was as satisfying as it could be, but I did appreciate seeing those themes. They're rare in yaoi. Most of the time the unhealthy relationship wins in a love triangle. The art was strange and the visuals were seriously disgusting at times, but I don't know, I think this was worth the read. I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like it, but I give it a solid B. I hope someone translates the sequel, though I worry about what might be revealed then, given how damaged everyone is in this one.

Daikirai no Saki Kara Miteru

Ongoing | AZUMI Tsuna | 2016 released

I have mixed feelings on this one. The rating could change depending on how it ends, if anyone ever picks it up again. I like certain elements, but it's so messed up how they treated the poor alpha. He just wanted to be kind and noble, and then he gets treated like this. But it seems like it could be an interesting story if they do it right.

MODS

Complete | Natsume Kazuki | 2000 released

Okay, what was with that final shot, though? Was there supposed to be more, or is there something I'm missing? Blah, I don't like that, but otherwise it's a great story. Very emotional and sad. I cried my eyes out and got a headache. But it's a beautiful story and I wish there were more. I love stuff like this. Tora is such a lovely seme. Their whole world is complicated but fascinating, and I'm so glad I finally finished this.
