Koujitsuei no Tobira
Noooooooo I want more! I want to keep reading about this sort of thing. I feel like 99% of yaoi has no real plot beyond the romance. I would have loved to have seen this as a longer series. Lovely art, sweet character relations. I have a few questions about some of the confusing aspects, but I left the story feeling satisfied. Very sweet, really glad I read it. EDIT: Crap, now I realize why it was confusing. This is a spin off of another work. I forgot that I'd been meaning to read the other one first. Oh well, I suppose it didn't spoil too much.
Fallinga
Aw, sad one. Interesting, creepy little concept, though. I like things that leave you to fill in the blanks. But I can see how people might want a bit more answers in this situation. Still, there are enough pieces to give you the creeps, at least.
Natsu ni Tokeru Himitsu no Koi
Whaaaaaaa, I love this so far!!! I hope it updates soon. Amazing art, great storytelling. I already like the characters. And I have a thing for characters witnessing something bad happening to someone they care about. I can't wait to see how this unfolds.
Azure and Claude
I don't typically enjoy het romance, and I'm usually not up for pointless misery on top of it, so I almost didn't read this. I'm really glad I did, though! I'm curious to see how it ends. Either way, I found the way it unfolded thus far to be intriguing. The first sixteen chapters are interesting, for sure. I wasn't fond of the main guy for most of the story, and while I knew he'd eventually fall for the chick, I was annoyed by the thought of it. They changed my mind, though. I'm not sure what sort of conclusion I'm rooting for now. It seems pointless if they live, but cruel if they die. Either way, I look forward to updates.
Anglerfish
I really like this so far! I wish there were more than two (technically 3) chapters. I can't wait for an update. Also, they cut the pages really well. It sucks so much when the dialogue and images are all slice up in strange ways. Really looking forward to future chapters!
Koi no Kiseki
I want to like this, and it's interesting and different, but why, why, WHY do they always have to "become pretty?" Can't it ever be that they find happiness and confidence without having to physically change? I hate this sort of thing so much. Whenever there's an "ugly" girl as the main character, generally people are just cruel constantly, then she gets super hot and everyone is nice, and no one ever gets their comeuppance for being crappy. It's just reinforcing the idea that women are only worth how attractive they can be to others. I say that assuming that's what happens. I will be shocked if she doesn't suddenly become beautiful because of the doctor. I'll change my rating if she doesn't, but since she probably will, I'll tentatively keep reading.
Natsujikan
One of my favorite authors, but this collection never gets less depressing. I miss when there was tons of new stuff from her, but honestly, most of it does fall either on the crack comedy side or the heartbreaking side. The times when it's in between are few. But when it works, it really works.
Crow's Library of Danmei
It's a shame that it's only three chapters and looks to have been dropped. Hopefully someone else picks it up someday. It's an interesting concept, though stressful since it's hard to say how it'll end. I hope it isn't some sort of punishment for the uke. That would be pretty fucked up.
Yagiza no Yuujin
Wow. This was really beautiful and sad, and I loved it. I really love a focus on male/male friendship, too. It's so rare to see. Even with the lingering hints of feelings one of them had for the girl, that was never the focus, so it didn't take away from the power of the story. The cat stuff--NO. Fucking hell. I hated it so much. I wish I could erase that from my mind. I know it's only pretend, but it was so drawn out and awful, and one of my cats looks like that cat, so even worse. But other than that, this was a really good manga. I wish that scene would exit my brain, but I'm glad I read the story. I do wish that there'd been more emphasis on the healing of the survivors, especially someone who's been so brutally bullied and mistreated for so long, but at least he said that sweet thing at the end about how he feels hopeful being with the other boy. Very sad but a very good story.
