Not a Sugar Daddy

Complete | Pyapya | 2017 released

Okay, so the part with the misunderstandings and all that painful stuff, along with the fact that he was SO mean to the uke (though he was acting out of hurt, which is a human thing to do), was very heartbreaking. But other than that, they are the sweetest, most loving couple I've seen in a while. They're in a truly healthy relationship, which is so rare in any romantic genre, especially yaoi. The seme just loves him so, so much. Also, A+ for the depiction of a coping rape survivor. It's easy to forget things, to second guess yourself, to downplay what happened. Behavior gets more erratic, guilt rushes in, then anger. A victim may randomly lash out or express sensitivity toward things that they'd normally been okay with. You just never really get to see that. Rape can't be healed with make up sex. As of chapter 27, I really like it. I hope it keeps being great. There are things that make it less than perfect, but they're overshadowed by how different it is as a manwha. I'm so glad he finally called out those shitty girls for what they did, though I suppose I should forgive the one chick for lashing out in anger, too. She had a big crush, and she took her hurt out on the uke. Regardless, I'm so happy he finally said something. So often it's this stupid thing where he instantly forgives everyone, or they never really talk about it. He actually got pissed and said how he felt. I wish more stories were like this. Looking forward to the next chapter!

Ai no donā

Complete | Avogado6 | 2019 released

Very short, but it definitely hurts for a moment. The feeling of losing happiness is so awful. Ignorance would be so much better. You long for these good feelings, but everything ends.

Boku To

Complete | kishi torajirou | 2000 released

I read it even though I hate sad things, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be. It's sad, sure, and it'd be nice if it showed people with their second loves, having a happy ending. But I dunno. someone said 8 is the last chapter, but it says it's still going, so I guess we'll see. Chapter six made me cry. Poor baby. I also was confused a lot because the boys all look really similar. Sometimes it was clear that one of the boys was the same in different stories, but sometimes one would look the same but say or do things that suggested it was a different boy, so I don't freaking know. Sad little slice of heartache but there's still hope. They're young, so you know they'll find a guy who actually loves them someday.

Akaneshinchi Hanaya Sange

Complete | Renaissance Yoshida | 2007 released

Huh. That was a very strange, very convoluted manga. There were things I actually liked about it, despite all of the weirdness inserted here and there. I think the ending confused some people because it's so abrupt, then it's followed by a bunch of "afterwards" type stuff. The story ends with both of the original couple realizing they were both in love, and the asshole one deciding to leave everything behind. It also means the new couple stays together. Everything after that is snippets of things in the past, or personal introspection. I actually kind of love "second love" stories with all the heartbreak that comes from the loss of a first love, then the healing that comes after with a person who actually treats you right. This is such a weird story, and it's all over the place, so I can't say that it was as satisfying as it could be, but I did appreciate seeing those themes. They're rare in yaoi. Most of the time the unhealthy relationship wins in a love triangle. The art was strange and the visuals were seriously disgusting at times, but I don't know, I think this was worth the read. I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like it, but I give it a solid B. I hope someone translates the sequel, though I worry about what might be revealed then, given how damaged everyone is in this one.

Chou to Hana no Kankeisei

Complete | Akabeko | 2017 released

So, now that I've read all she has available on the site so far, I think my assessment is that I prefer her more emotional, complicated stuff to her smut. She has very specific fetishes that repeat throughout her stories, and that always kind of weirds me out with authors. Regardless, I love her, her art style, and her approach to most of her plots. She does seem to have a thing for insecure characters in a romance, but that's not all that unusual in yaoi. I do like that she offers characters happy endings typically. With one exception, everyone has ended up happy in everything I've read of hers. I can't wait to read more of her stuff. The only ongoing story hasn't been updated in a year. D: Noooooo.

Kuyuru

Complete | Migino yagi | 2019 released

I haven't read all of the extras yet, but most of them. There are some things I would have changed in this story, but I liked it overall. I'm big on betrayal followed by a new, healing love, so this was great for that. I'll come back to this after I read everything else.

Senya Ichiya - Shitone no Himegoto

Complete | okadaya tetuzoh | 2009 released

This was a very sweet story. I'm not crazy about the art style, but it did get better, especially after Aoi cut his hair. The ending with the daddy made me cry. The first resolution regarding the lover was a little too convenient for me, but it was still a nice tale. Oh, and I loved the butch lesbian! I don't think I've ever seen an older, masculine woman who liked ladies in manga.

Mr.Miss

Ongoing | aseom | 2000 released

I really like it so far. I love the angst over being outed in high school trope honestly, and I love second love even more. I hope we get to see more of the past soon. It's painful to see, but it's hurt/comfort, which I adore. This new guy will kiss your bruises and make them all better! EDIT: UGH. It's coming out really fast, but it's only eleven chapters, and I need more. I want it all! I'd probably read it in one sitting if it were all out, though, so maybe this is for the best. Still, I can't wait to see more of the past stuff unfold. Plus, omgz, real communication??? How rare!

Bound to Be Fools

Complete | Gahyun | 2019 released

Dude, I hate Jun SO MUCH. He's such a selfish piece of shit. He didn't even think of Kangjin that entire time, like he totally forgot about him and didn't regret how cruel he was. He never apologized or anything. I hate this because you know they're gonna legit fall back in love and get together, but I want Jun to actually fall in love and then have his heart destroyed. He's awful. The story focuses so much on him and his hardships, but why the hell are we expected to care? He did something horrible and never even felt bad about it. Even after seeing what he did to him, Jun is just like, oh no, he's seeing me at a low point! Screw you, Jun. It's so unsatisfying right now at chapter 16, but if Jun really gets what's coming to him, I'll raise my score for the manga. EDIT: I still hate Jun. I don't care if he finally apologized in chapter 22. It was such a weird, lame, flat apology after what he did. It's like he didn't even give a crap that whole time. But according to the comments, I'm the only person who feels this way, so I guess I'll just have to vent by myself. Break his stupid heart, Kangjin! EDIT: So he didn't end up with either guy, which was an interesting choice, but wtf was with that ending? "Yay, I'm getting discharged!" THE END. We don't get any other hints as to how his life is going? It felt like an afterthought, like okay, Jun has accepted he doesn't love him anymore, Chisoo has accepted they can never be together, so he's not important anymore. I think really the author just got tired of drawing it or something, because the ending seems tacked on. Maybe originally he was supposed to die. I'd almost prefer that because this feels kind of cheap. But okay. Whatever. At least Jun never got what he wanted. I'm also glad Chisoo never lost it and went after them, which is what I thought might happen. I'm glad I skipped a good portion of this, though. It doesn't feel like anything ever truly resolved.

Love Jinx

Complete | Geonhan,건한 | 2020 released

As of 19 chapters, I'm really torn... I'm not sure I like that this guy is obviously end game. He's getting more backstory now, but he was manipulative and horrible from the start--blackmailing, almost outing the protagonist to his family more than once, all this shit. He's clearly crazy and obsessive, but I guess we're supposed to see it as devotion. Eh. The art is touch and go. Sometimes it's beautiful, sometimes people have weird little pointy chins, tiny heads, and huge, thick necks. I would give it three stars for now, but I actually like the secondary couple/throuple more than the main, so I'm in it for that. Hopefully it starts to flow a little better for me. I do really like break up and second love themes, I have to admit. Here's hoping it's satisfying in the end.
