Kuruizaki No Hana

Ongoing | hakase mizuki | 2000 released

I seriously spent years agonizing over the fact that the publisher went under before releasing the final, translated volume. I thought I'd never read the ending. Then I discovered it had been scanlated about two years ago, and I was so freaking happy. It took them a while to get to it, so I'd lost hope. Thank you so much to the scanlation team! This manga is so sad and screwed up, typical of the mangaka, but at least the ending isn't as depressing as it is in some of her other stuff. Still sad, but it could be worse. I just saw that she wrote a follow up to the series in 2007, though, and I wonder if anyone will ever pick that up. It's been a long time, though, and it seems like her work is less popular in general, so I have no idea if it'll ever be translated. I miss how active scanlations used to be. EDIT: Damn it, I was deliriously tired when I saw the continuation thing, and it isn't for this at all. It's for the other one, The Demon Ororon. I should have read more carefully. But that one should be translated, because that story had such an abrupt ending.

Aw, that one was sad! There's usually more of a slight twist to the character in these, but that's okay. Not my fave, but it wasn't bad.

Kimi no Naka Ni

Complete | Homura Jiko | 2000 released

Hm. Kind of abrupt, though I do like that the he was deeply in love with his wife. I hate how yaoi just tosses aside female characters like they're placeholders. I really hate "it's okay if it's you" type stuff with a straight character, so I'm kinda glad it... went the direction that it did. Sad, but it didn't make me cry, which is unusual for me with emotional stuff. I guess I just couldn't really connect with the characters. But it was unusual, so three stars.

Honogurai Mizu No Soko Kara

Complete | Suzuki Koji | 2002 released

Eh. Pretty slow, rather confusing. Like, you can guess what's happening based on similar stories, but it mostly failed to hold my attention.

Katamuku Karada

Complete | OKUDA Waku | 2000 released

Creepy, but it seems to be aware of it? I dunno. Interesting, regardless. Too bad it was so short. I feel like that could have been explored more. Definitely got a Stockholm syndrome vibe.

Beautiful World

Complete | Sakuradata Hina | 2000 released

Aw, that was really sad! I knew it would be, but damn. It wouldn't have made me so sad if he hadn't wanted a friend so badly. His reactions were what got me. Definitely a downer.

Classmate (ASADA Nemui)

Complete | ASADA Nemui | 2015 released

Definitely messed up and sad. Seems to imply that the leader was in love with him all along, but clearly had some serious mental issues. It's so brief and abrupt that it's hard to get into, so it reads as torture porn, essentially. It's just there for the cruelty. I wish they'd done more with the concept instead of just ended it there. Also, this artist clearly has a pee fetish, based on her other work.

Castehate

Complete | NATSUNO Yuzo | 2018 released

WTF. This is so screwed up. ...But I like it. I'm just glad that one part was a fake out, or I would have had to rage quit. That's like the worst kind of violation of the bros before hoes code. Like, seriously? No piece of ass is worth letting someone eat your best friend. XD Anyway, this is obviously a kinkfest for the mangaka, as it squeezes in so many fetishes that aren't particularly common in yaoi. Not that I'm complaining, as a few of them are kinks of my own that I so rarely see. This story is definitely odd, and the cruelty of it is kind of getting to me, but I'm intrigued.

The Dancing Dwarf

Complete | Maruo Suehiro | 2000 released

So THAT'S why he doesn't like to drink.

Kiseki to Amedama

Complete | Nishin Masumi | 2016 released

This mangaka has a clear fetish for people saving a person at the expense of their own life and well being, only to discover that that person is a monster and not worth being saved. I actually liked the twisted elements of the story, but it was too short for what it was, and that open ending where you don't know if he pulls the trigger or not is frustrating. That aside, this Christ dude really needs to die. It sucks that someone he loves has to be the one to perish instead. Yet another thing that wouldn't have happened if Christ's dad had just killed him in the first place. And no, it clearly wasn't because he was abusive or angry his son was gay. He isn't gay, he's a pedophile. His father walked in on him having sex with an elementary school kid. Who the hell processed that guy as an adult after all that? Surely there had to have been some questions. Though I've read real life murder cases with fatal levels of incompetence, so I guess it isn't so far fetched.
