Not a Sugar Daddy
Okay, so the part with the misunderstandings and all that painful stuff, along with the fact that he was SO mean to the uke (though he was acting out of hurt, which is a human thing to do), was very heartbreaking. But other than that, they are the sweetest, most loving couple I've seen in a while. They're in a truly healthy relationship, which is so rare in any romantic genre, especially yaoi. The seme just loves him so, so much. Also, A+ for the depiction of a coping rape survivor. It's easy to forget things, to second guess yourself, to downplay what happened. Behavior gets more erratic, guilt rushes in, then anger. A victim may randomly lash out or express sensitivity toward things that they'd normally been okay with. You just never really get to see that. Rape can't be healed with make up sex. As of chapter 27, I really like it. I hope it keeps being great. There are things that make it less than perfect, but they're overshadowed by how different it is as a manwha. I'm so glad he finally called out those shitty girls for what they did, though I suppose I should forgive the one chick for lashing out in anger, too. She had a big crush, and she took her hurt out on the uke. Regardless, I'm so happy he finally said something. So often it's this stupid thing where he instantly forgives everyone, or they never really talk about it. He actually got pissed and said how he felt. I wish more stories were like this. Looking forward to the next chapter!
Sin of Heart
Ooh, this looks like something I'd really like. Which means it'll probably let me down completely. But for now! I like that they have this history between them. I hope it's a solid story and not just a bunch of pathetic misunderstandings and/or rape-forgiveness. I'm intrigued, either way.
Akaneshinchi Hanaya Sange
Huh. That was a very strange, very convoluted manga. There were things I actually liked about it, despite all of the weirdness inserted here and there. I think the ending confused some people because it's so abrupt, then it's followed by a bunch of "afterwards" type stuff. The story ends with both of the original couple realizing they were both in love, and the asshole one deciding to leave everything behind. It also means the new couple stays together. Everything after that is snippets of things in the past, or personal introspection. I actually kind of love "second love" stories with all the heartbreak that comes from the loss of a first love, then the healing that comes after with a person who actually treats you right. This is such a weird story, and it's all over the place, so I can't say that it was as satisfying as it could be, but I did appreciate seeing those themes. They're rare in yaoi. Most of the time the unhealthy relationship wins in a love triangle. The art was strange and the visuals were seriously disgusting at times, but I don't know, I think this was worth the read. I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like it, but I give it a solid B. I hope someone translates the sequel, though I worry about what might be revealed then, given how damaged everyone is in this one.
Chou to Hana no Kankeisei
So, now that I've read all she has available on the site so far, I think my assessment is that I prefer her more emotional, complicated stuff to her smut. She has very specific fetishes that repeat throughout her stories, and that always kind of weirds me out with authors. Regardless, I love her, her art style, and her approach to most of her plots. She does seem to have a thing for insecure characters in a romance, but that's not all that unusual in yaoi. I do like that she offers characters happy endings typically. With one exception, everyone has ended up happy in everything I've read of hers. I can't wait to read more of her stuff. The only ongoing story hasn't been updated in a year. D: Noooooo.
Kuyuru
I haven't read all of the extras yet, but most of them. There are some things I would have changed in this story, but I liked it overall. I'm big on betrayal followed by a new, healing love, so this was great for that. I'll come back to this after I read everything else.
Asterisk (torino Shino)
A very sweet little story that becomes more irritating based on a sheer lack of communication. I hate that shit so much. But as sad as it was that he broke his heart that way, at least they do come together in the end. It just seems like such a long way around to that point. Maybe they did need to grow up apart, but twelve years is a long time to be separated based on the sheer fact that you won't just tell each other how you feel. Anyway, that aside, it's a nice little story, and I'm glad they end up happy, even when work regularly puts miles between them.
Miro Maze
I'm really afraid to read this, because I'm scared it'll have a sad or unsatisfying ending. I like the emotional nature of it, but it's already hurting my feelings. I wanna hug that poor baby so hard. Ugh, tentatively continuing, but I may wait to keep reading until more chapters come out.
Someone else's BL Manhwa
Awwwwww! What a sweet comic! I like that it handled real life issues for lgbt people in Korea, and it basically portrayed a lot of different ways to be a guy who likes guys. I like that it also had an open, hopeful ending for some characters, where the happy ending isn't a relationship, but finding a way to make yourself ready to receive one when the time is right. Very wholesome overall, though I would have liked to see more with the parents and the whole coming out thing. But I like the way the characters all grew and changed. And I like the idea of them all being friends in the future. I think they will be. ^^
Shounen Yo, Taishi Toka Iroiro Idake
Wtf. There was nothing here, and then it was abandoned. I only gave it three stars because I love the other work this mangaka has on here. It sucks that she doesn't seem to have anything else translated. EDIT: Uhhhh.... So like a few years later, three more chapters uploaded, and now it's saying it's finished. Basically these are weird, crack comedy stories that are very short and kind of hard to look at. It's like if only the disturbing scenes from Smells Like Green Spirit got their own manga. I feel like chapters are missing or something. The whole thing is weird and hard to follow, lots of snapshots with no real story, but comments from the mangaka that make me feel like there WAS indeed a story here. As is, I feel like giving it even two stars is generous, because wtf. I still love her, though. I wish more of her work were out there and translated. EDIT: Oh my god, THANK YOU. Thank you for fixing it, whoever you are? It was a weird, disjointed mess, missing tons of pages and making it unreadable. Since so little of this mangaka's stuff is out there, I really wanted to read what she DID have available, and this was such a disappointment. But finally someone fixed it! The first few chapters should just be deleted. The new upload has the entire manga, it looks like. I haven't finished reading, but from what I've skimmed, it seems to all be there. EDIT: Okay, so I finally read it. But I skimmed a lot of it because it was kind of weird, haha. I'll go back and read it more carefully later. It's a weird comedy, for sure. Lots of crazy faces. But it's cute and wholesome overall. I wish we'd gotten more time with those two idiots being cute together and kissing and such, but whatever. I still like it well enough.
