Hmmm... Pushy seme, but it's cute enough. Waiting for the next chapters.

Deadlock

Ongoing | Takashina Yuu,aida saki | 2011 released

I love it so far, hate to wait for an update but it's worth it. I'm hoping there'll be a bit more action (both of the nonsexual and the sexual nature) in the upcoming chapters, but I'm intrigued either way. I appreciate how attractive so many of the characters are, too. This art is gorgeous, and the artist really knows how to portray different types of attractive features, so we can generally tell everyone apart pretty well. And I know that BB is a rapist and all that, but he is so damn hot. I mean, Yuuto, you're the uke in a violent yaoi manga. If you're gonna get assaulted, it may as well be by a good looking dude, right? Ha.

That was... a very odd story. Kind of cute, but definitely weird. I liked the second one more because there was no rape in it. I like elements of the first one, but nonconsent isn't erased by future consent, and it bugs me. But whatever, the author clearly has a thing for very odd love triangles. The manga treats some stuff too lightly, but what else is new when it comes to BL? It doesn't surprise me, but I still don't like it. Anyway, it was entertaining, and I did like some of the cute twists on certain tropes. Everyone was an asshole in the first story, so at least they were more likable in the second.

This had potential, but it was too short to do what it wanted to do. I would have enjoyed there being more here, like an ongoing history between these two, and an actual relationship (like they knew one another and talked) between the main guy and the younger brother. But at least he doesn't end up with the rapey dude.

Noooooooooooooooooooooo!!! I just noticed this hasn't been updated in a year. Please, someone get back to translating it. This is the first Omegaverse manga that I've truly enjoyed. It doesn't brush over horrible things like rape, and it sets up how hard and depressing this dystopian kind of world is. The love between the main two is so touching, and there's no expectation on the seme's part. The fated pair thing is a complication, but I hope that ultimately they're able to overcome it and stay together. This manga made me cry, and I just love how raw and sad it is, without being totally hopeless. I so rarely actually like the main pairing in omegaverse stuff, but this is perfect. So it really sucks that I'm stuck trying to decipher the partially uploaded, untranslated scans in the meantime. Not fair. ETA: Ugggghhhh, so sad! I'm totally crying. I want them to all be happy and stay with the ones they love! This is gonna kill me. It seems like they're all gonna break up. But I hope they can fight fate. Ugh, please update soon. I have to know what happens. Maybe we'll luck out and get another chunk of updates, chapter 9 and on. Edit: Noooooooo! How is chapter nine even more painful? I mean, obviously it will just get worse from here, but I don't think my heart can take this. I appreciate that someone is translating it at all, but the pause between chapters is killing me. I'm so scared that this isn't going to end the way that I'm hoping. I don't even know what to think. EDIT: Taiga, quit being a little bitch. EDIT: This manga hurts my heart in all the right ways. I've been sobbing this entire time. Totally thrilled that there's more, but man, that is definitely painful. Still, I have hope for them. Even if the memories never come back, hopefully he'll be able to start gaining new ones again eventually. EDIT: UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGHHHHHHHHH, MY HEART! DX I'm over here sobbing. This is so beautiful. I love this manga so fucking much. It hurts in all the right ways, and it ends on a beautiful and hopeful note. Absolute perfection. Thank you so much to the scanlator, man! I could have ended up never reading this amazing story.

Smells Like Green Spirit

Complete | Nagai Saburou | 2011 released

UGH. GOD, MY HEART. My face hurts from crying. I wanted so badly for them to be best friends forever. Regardless of what Kirino chose. The fact that they never saw each other again kills me. So heartbreaking. But their friendship was so beautiful and important. I'm glad they had it at all. Man, this manga was brilliant and tragic. You never see yaoi that really tackles the challenges of being gay in Japan, or just in general. It comes with so much baggage, navigating the good and bad, deciding whether or not to live a lie. This story really explores all of the outcomes based on different decisions and circumstances. My heart hurt so much by the end, knowing that not all of them would have the happy endings they deserved, but this was so well done, and so unusual. Typically, realistic seems to mean everyone dies or something, which honestly isn't realistic at all. It isn't all misery and despair. There are moments of hope, and moments of sadness. It may not have been perfect, but there's always more living to do. And it's never too late, really. Let's hope Kirino eventually finds the life that's right for him. Another thing I loved was the emphasis on friendship. It's so rare to have two gay male characters (though Kirino may have been transgender) without the two of them having romantic or sexual feelings for one another in yaoi. I really appreciated that they just loved each other platonically. They were best friends, which is very important, and romance didn't enter into that. It feels like we're so often told that romantic love is the most important, but I don't think that was the case here at all. Familial love, the love that comes with friendship, even self love. They're all so critical to happiness. "I'm sure there'll be a lot of people there... like us." That line broke my heart knowing that Kirino chooses to deny himself. It also hurts just knowing how isolated and scary it is for them, being gay, in such a small and homophobic community. The fact that they loved one another so much and were best friends like that... it just breaks my heart. The choices they made meant they couldn't be together, and that wasn't fair. That they'd even have to make those choices, to live the truth or to live a lie. They helped one another survive, and they never got to see each other again. Despite how much this manga killed me, I'm glad I read it. It really was beautiful, despite being so sad. I wish there'd been a more hopeful ending, but I enjoyed the good times when they were there. I'd love to read more just like this, only with them all being happy together in the end.

Kirei ni Shiteyo

Cute little story. Nothing too amazing, but sweet enough. I think with the right writer, an expansion on the story could have made it more interesting. But that's okay. It was quick and sweet.

Megumi and Tsugumi

Ongoing | Si Mitsuru | 2018 released

Aw, I really like this so far! Bummer that it's just the one chapter right now. I look forward to updates. I like when omegaverse stuff plays with the roles and stereotypes. It's nice to see an anti-rape seme, especially one who cares so much. I hope the story stays interesting and unusual. EDIT: Had to drop a star because I just can't stomach the whole "rape is okay because I actually ended up liking it" BS. Whatever. I still like the characters, but I wish they hadn't even included that crap. At any rate, it's up to chapter six now, and they finally have feelings for one another. I just hope from here on out, things are good.

In the Cage

Complete | Satou Sanayuki | 2018 released

Things resolved a little too easily for my tastes, but at least no one raped him into submission. I feel like this was on several lists or something that made me eager to read it, but I'm not sure now what it was that had me intrigued. It was decent enough, but nothing groundbreaking. At any rate, it was an enjoyable enough read, albeit flawed in its own ways. The art was usually pretty, though there was one shot where the alpha's neck is SO long like he turned into some sort of snake monster, and for the life of me, I do not see how anyone okayed that. It was scary.

Sense of Loyalty

Complete | matsumoto yoh | 2000 released

Still not enough. They oneshots are just little snippets, sadly. But it's nice to at least have this much, since they didn't get a lot of time in the main story. None of these answers any of the questions I've had from the start, though. Why did the mother leave? What happened to her? Why didn't they just come and take Yuki from the start? Why did they order the seme to kill chimera children if they actually support chimera children? Like what am I missing here? If it weren't for that stuff, the main manga would be near perfect. I still love it though, and I wish there were more.
