Osomatsu-san Dj - Gomenne, Kaa-san
I'm not familiar with the anime this is based on, which is how I prefer it if I'm gonna read a doujinshi. This was a strange, dark little tale that had potential. There were things I liked, because sick and twisted in the right way is great, but it was sort of canceled out a bit by some of that other weird, yaoi stuff where the blow is softened with bizarre allusions to love or some crap. Rape is rape, bitches. Still, it was intriguing, and the art is pretty. I wish doujinshis weren't oneshots as a rule.
Amai Sokubaku
Pretty art most of the time, but sometimes the faces went a bit ug. The part where he runs to confess or whatever made me throw up in my mouth. Typical rape to love. At least this guy apologized for it, which is rare in yaoiland. But he still shouldn't have gotten his twoo wuv in the end. There were elements that would have been cute if the rape hadn't occurred, but that tainted everything. Meh.
Beautiful Days
Very sad. Beautiful art, complicated human emotions. Reading the comments made me think I should skip this, but it ended up being painful in a satisfying way, rather than in a way that destroyed me. I actually preferred the complicated, messy story to the first story. I'm not a fan of incest, for one, but it was also just more typical and cliche than the second story. Didn't hate it, though. I haven't read the precursor manga, so I was sort of filling in the blanks as I went, but I appreciated the nature of the character unfurling, these people lashing out, hurting others so that they can feel your own hurt, etc. Definitely sad, and it leaves a little empty feeling in your gut, but... I've seen much worse. At least they're still trying. (Just from this, though, I wish Sato would dump Akira and find someone better. He's the only one who doesn't seem redeemable, but maybe he's featured in the first story?)
Renzoku Ambivalenz
What the... Okay, I know I've read the first story elsewhere, but I don't remember it having that ending. I also don't entirely get what it was talking about. Is the other guy a doppelganger? Is he a triplet? Is he a manifestation of the other half of one of the brothers? Either way, so weird and random. It had potential, but it was just too brief and all over the place. I have no problem with dark, gory, or disturbing, but that was just weird. The second story was weird and kind of gross. There was some serious dissonance between the two, like they weren't done by the same person. Is that the case? I need to look. Anyway, this is a fucked up collection, and I'm afraid of what to expect if more stories beyond the two get uploaded. What even...
Kyonshii Keikaku
I'm not big on incest, but this was an interesting story. A little rushed, but I liked the way it came together at the end. It reminds me a little of Dogville, which is weird because I got that sense even before the twist. At any rate, that's what they get.
Ganjigarame
I'm not a fan of incest, and this was pretty generic, so it didn't do much for me, but I like the platonic side of their relationship. I wish there were more yaoi stories with brothers that didn't involve incest of any form. Lol at the guy saying it's wrong to have feelings for his brother, in the midst of fucking his brother. I mean, I get it. You have to draw the line somewhere. XD
DOGMA(Akabeko)
Holy fuck, that's messed up and really, really sad. I still feel bad for the main character. It's the father's fault he's nuts. So weird, though. I love this mangaka, so I read whatever she writes, but this was... a new experience.
Akaneshinchi Hanaya Sange
Huh. That was a very strange, very convoluted manga. There were things I actually liked about it, despite all of the weirdness inserted here and there. I think the ending confused some people because it's so abrupt, then it's followed by a bunch of "afterwards" type stuff. The story ends with both of the original couple realizing they were both in love, and the asshole one deciding to leave everything behind. It also means the new couple stays together. Everything after that is snippets of things in the past, or personal introspection. I actually kind of love "second love" stories with all the heartbreak that comes from the loss of a first love, then the healing that comes after with a person who actually treats you right. This is such a weird story, and it's all over the place, so I can't say that it was as satisfying as it could be, but I did appreciate seeing those themes. They're rare in yaoi. Most of the time the unhealthy relationship wins in a love triangle. The art was strange and the visuals were seriously disgusting at times, but I don't know, I think this was worth the read. I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like it, but I give it a solid B. I hope someone translates the sequel, though I worry about what might be revealed then, given how damaged everyone is in this one.
Tonari Ni Sunderu Neko No Koto
...Kind of a weird one. I like this mangaka, but for whatever reason I kept seeing this one but never reading it. I kept thinking I already had, but... no. I probably would have remembered this. Anyway, not the worst thing I've read, but just odd and kinda creepy. Cousins who end up screwing, and a guy who doesn't want to admit his sexuality riding a little kid, like gross and wtf. The masochist thing wouldn't have been as weird if there hadn't been that rapey introduction. Also, it isn't "reverse rape." It's rape. Just because the rapist was the one being penetrated, it isn't any less gross.
