My Cute Beast!
ABSOLUTELY. FUCKING. ADORABLEEEEE!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA . . . . . . . Phew. Well This was SO PURE AND INNOCENT, the kind of love I want :") I KNEW SHE WOULD BE THE ONE TO PROPOSE HEHE I am SO in love with sensual, emotional, caring and soft male leads and strong and open-minded, positive female leads. It is a dynamic that will never grow old because of how both parties are understanding, because they've been in the other's shoes, cuz, you know, gender stereotypes and patriarchy... So seeing this change of pace and break from societal norms really just makes my day and fills me with hope for my future love. I mean, it's obvious everything here was as sweetened as sugar, it is very much fairy tale like, but that's just what I came here for. And not to mention, Beauty and the Beast is my favourite story of all time, with Belle being a strong and kind woman, who does not let norms define her. Just like Da-Im. I'm also a huge softie for gentle giants, they're my weak spot, On-Gyum was so cute, I couldn't get enough of it. At some point the drama with Taebum and Hera became really draining (I guess that was the whole point of it all tho, so I can't blame the manhwa, more like blame my expectations), soooo I contemplated dropping it, thinking it can't get any sweeter than this, it's gonna be adorable till the end, might as well save myself the 40 chapters left.. But I continued and I do not regret it, it was actually so refreshing. I finished it after more than 24 hours, unusual for me, but I had school, so, nyeah I gotta say, Taebum and Hera MADE MY BLOOD BOIL. You know, the average rom-com viallin, they weren't too extreme but they were just hella annoying, I despised the way they victimised themselves till the end but again, that's what they're in the story for. I like how Taebum sort of started regretting but it was only after having done such horrible things, so even though I kinda felt bad for his failure in life, I can't say he doesn't deserve it, nu-uh, he brought it upon himself. Fully and entirely. And Hera.... Yeah, I felt the tiniest bit of sympathy for her horrendous childhood but honestly, people have gone through worse and have come out decent, so it was no excuse to trample on everyone just because she was dealt worse cards. Her parents sucked, her grandma sucked, her childhood sucked, yeah. But On-Gyum was there for her always and yet, she not only pushed him away, she left him after knowing fully well how much it hurts to be left alone in this world. And then she comes back 10 years later, practically waltzing inside with a bouquet of freshly cut lies and schemes, I mean, how do you even feel bad for such a person? She had everything at some point but did not love herself, so she made it everyone else's problem. And yeah, as counterintuitive as it sounds, she did NOT love herself. She knew no one would be able to tolerate her as much as On-Gyum had in high school, she knew no one would be there for her because of the excuse of a human she is, so instead of changing herself, she deluded herself into thinking she's a literal Goddess on earth, so yeah, everyone has to bow down to her (more like stoop to her level, iykyk). And honestly, to me it sounds like a really broken person who hides behind the facade of egotistical behaviour and narcissistic antics just because deep down she knows she is not worth it. Maybe she doesn't explicitly say it but towards the end we can see her mental (and physical) breakdown in front of On-Gyum, where she says how he is the only one for her, because no one else would take her. She knows, she just pretends she doesn't. Sad, I guess, but as On-Gyum replied to her swiftly, nobody is at fault for that except her. She is the cause of all her problems and the reason she is now alone in this world. So the take out from all this is to treat people with kindness, otherwise it WILL come back to bite you in the privileged ass. As for Taebum, damn, he apparently marries a newly found rich girl (new money) with no class or significant status, such a shame!!! Poor rich boy... Anyways I had a feeling Jua would turn out to be a good person and my intuition did not lie, I was very happy about that, just from her first speech bubbles I could tell she was no ordinary rich girl. The fact that she had to use all her strength to climb up in life just in order to gain recognition from her own family and those around her, it made me respect her so much more. She viewed men as rivals, because no one understood how much easier it is to be a Prince than a Princess and yet everyone would lash out at her instead, because apparently daddy's money applies only to rich girls, not wealthy men. So it's understandable she couldn't find a lover till the end of the manhwa, though I'm rooting for her in the future!!!! If she wants to, of course. Her mother said so too, which made me happy, because women are rarely given the choice, especially in Asia. The fact that Jua had lived her whole life thinking her parents regretted having given birth to a girl instead of a boy and thus wanted her to absolutely marry into a family with a powerful wealthy son, breaks hearts, I know. But she learns towards the end, no, actually, you can live for yourself, Jua. I'm proud of her growth as a character in this series. So Je-Im... Lmao, I loved this guy, he was so boyfriend material honestly, how could he be single... Though at times he resembled more a middle-aged woman obsessed with soap operas than a high schooler, you know. But that just added to his charm. He is silly (goofy LMAO SORRY), witty and just playful. The perfect sibling to the she-Hulk hihi. Seonggi was a good friend till the end, I love how she at first didn't really understand why So Da-Im wanted to become friends with Jua but then they were this adorable trio, the three musketeers, as they call themselves. In the end, two out of three got married and the third one, Jua, was just happy to have her true friends beside her. So everyone won!!! I have to say though, I am curious what happened with Hera in the end... I forgot her real name but oh well, Hera is easier to remember. Hyun, the guy from the boy group Heroes, with white hair and an earring, his little brother Jisoo is in an adorable relationship with a girl from his school, I sadly forgot her name. Hyun is nice, I expected for him to be a total asshole because of how cut throat the industry is AND because Hera particularly despised him, guess she just does not like genuinely good people lol And a big thank you to the blonde woman who aired out all the dirty laundry Hera could possibly show the public. I loved the cats, at some point I forgot they were the main reason this whole plot even started ahaha Adorable chibi art style and cute expressions. 10/10 from me, this was worth it, because it made my heart feel lighter. (There was a devil and angel scene in the earliest chapters and it felt like a reference to "A love contract with the devil", because I jumped into this manhwa right after the devils and angels one )
Hyperventilation
Unexpectedly really good story and beautiful art style. Just 6 chapters were enough to convey everything, which is pretty hard to do
Waterside Night
One of the best things I have ever read, hands down, WHICH SAYS A LOT I DID NOT expect this manhwa to be so good!!!! On the surface, it looked like your average, generic BL with a handful of trauma and sexual assault, repetitive scenes and senseless characters that honestly don't go anywhere with their mentality and everything else BUT I WAS WRONG And I am so happy I was wrong. There is still a long way to go before we reach the end and that's obvious but for what has come out so far, 76 chapters, I genuinely felt so invested in the main leads' dynamic. I... did not picture Taeju breaking down in front of Euihyun... both of their character arcs are so beautifully written and well executed. The bad gangster mob bastard had a change of heart, pretty generic right? But the process he went through to secure a position in Euihyun's heart... well, that alone made him stand out in the crowd of redemption assholes every BL gets. The thing is, it is just so well thought out. It's simple but this story knows what it wants to be, it's not trying 1000 things at once, it's focusing on a couple of main aspects and that's why it's doing a marvelous job. Taeju, the blond fucker, gangster bastard, as Euihyun likes to call him, genuinely started off as a terrible person in the beginning of the manhwa. He raped Euihyun on their first meeting and his personality was so... twisted, shall we say. He starts off as this selfish prick that doesn't listen to anyone's bullshit and gives NO ONE the time of day. Euihyun is a toy to him (even if he starts getting possessive right off the bat) and he wants to break him, in order for Euihyun to depend on him. He is arrogant and prideful and in no way would he go around catering to someone else's whims. But then he falls in love. And just like many of the other BL assholes, he realizes his grave mistakes and feels horrible about it. But this time it wasn't just conveyed with words of affirmation and cuddling, no. This is not a story where Euihyun was pining for Taeju, it was the other way around, so nothing except for debt is tying them together and they both know it. But Taeju understands how much of a terrible person he had been (honestly, fucking finally) and breaks down in all senses of the word. He thinks Euihyun is about to kill himself by drowning in the ocean, just like his attempt when they first met and Taeju screamed out "Gotcha!" In reality, Euihyun went there for the peace and quiet the ocean provides and Taeju threw himself at him, melting at the realization of what could have happened. His tears start flowing and he kneels down, begging for Euihyun to hate him, to despise him, to loathe him, but to never hate himself because nothing of this was ever Euihyun's fault. . . . This scene... it broke me. When the man on top of the world grovels beneath you and is pleading for you to spare yourself and instead direct your blame towards him, well, it provokes a lot of feelings. Taeju starts hyperventilating and pouring his heart out, for the first time ever we see him sincerely remorseful, he is broken from the weight of his own actions, and I find it beautiful. He learned how tremendous the consequences of such heinous acts can be and the arrogant, crude prick begs not for forgiveness but to be hated. Just so Euihyun can spare himself in turn. Man, I cried way too much at these scenes, I really didn't expect this manhwa to be such a rollercoaster Honest to God, the art style is beautiful and so damn detailed, way too much at times, each painful scene made me so apologetic and just sad at Euihyun's situation, the despair was portrayed so realistically and so well, it makes for a great read to really delve into. In the end, Euihyun and Euiyoung are reunited, the 27-year old and his 7-year old baby brother, whom he had looked after before he even opened his eyes for the first time. Their bond is so strong and beautiful, it made my heart swell with warmth, I cried at their reunion as well It's been about 20 minutes since I started writing this review. Honestly, I have so much more to talk about, the story has many twists and turns and oh boy does it have a GOOD plot, but I'm exhausted, it's 12.30 am and I can't be bothered to describe every significant event. Just know this, my future self, Low tide in twilight was worth every second spent reading it. Oh, and also, Taeju changes for real (at least towards Euihyun) and spoils him a lot, letting him do pretty much whatever he wants, getting rid of the debt, finding their pathetic excuse of a father and providing home, food, warmth and closure. Also, it's not completely for sure yet but I am fairly certain Euihyun is pregnant ANYWAYS (Yes, it's an omegaverse, of course men get pregnant and give birth here, don't ask me how that works, no idea) And yes, the baby would be a product of the most violent sexual assault scene we have witnessed here which says A LOT, Euihyun was literally raped on his first day there AND YET this somehow outmatched it, 3 consecutive chapters had warnings for violent sexual assault and it just.... makes sense....... It was a pretty brutal scene, made me tear up, and obviously led to further conflict, how WOULDN'T it But it all got... resolved??? when Euihyun went to the ocean I... really don't know how to feel about Taeju as a person. As a character, he has.. depth... not too much, but he's okay He is actually really chill in many scenes, it honestly makes that start of a contrast when compared to how obsessive and violent he can and will get He is a huge pervert, that goes without saying And he finally realizes and accepts his love towards Euihyun and then starts rightfully babying him, poor guy deserves it after everything he's been through. So. Yeah. I don't know how to feel about him. He had always been soft on Euihyun, providing everything with the snap of a finger but then... he would turn around and be the emotionally and physically abusive asshole we know and (don't) love And oh GOD when Euihyun is finally a bit calmer and has fallen asleep, his expression darkens and a smile twitches its way up his lips, his eyes are cloudy and he is stating he could never possibly let Euihyun go, even after knowing how much pain he had caused him Aaaannnnd, this scene freaked me out. RIGHT AFTER I THOUGHT HE HAD BECOME BETTER His sinister smile gave his sanity away, or rather, lack thereof But nonetheless. He is gentle now and honestly would he absolutely thrilled if he gets to know he's about to become a father, hell, he called himself Euihyun's husband already. And about Euihyun... well, his character has got a lot more depth in my opinion, because of the emotional growth he experiences as well Granted, they don't really change that much, but their thinking sort of does, so I consider it a win in my book, getting the suicidal boy to learn it had never been his fault and he deserves to feel loved as well. His tears became my tears and his pains drowned me in a vast sea of sorrow he had already slowly been sinking and drowning into. Except now, he's got a helping hand, finally someone to talk sense into him and to make him understand he should put himself first at least once in his life. Also, isn't it cute how a jellyfish is the supposed reference for pregnancy???? Euihyun has this recurring dream where he is sinking in clear waters and above him appears a jellyfish which shines brightly floats over to him in swift motions He touches it, fascinated by its beauty And he gets enthralled But he wakes up, suffocating from its hold Another thing I would like to note, the charisma and comedy in this manhwa is top-tier for me, their dynamic just doesn't get old and the chibi drawings are adorable Edit: Guess who read the entirety of Lowtide in twilight now Honestly, I loved the ending. It portrays toxic love so well, I mean, sure, it's not healthy, BUT Taeju's love and affection changed Euihyun's bleak perspective of the world around him. Now, when he looks out in the sea, instead of jumping headfirst with suicidal intentions, he thinks it's just pretty. It's colorful, because Taeju made his life colorful. I love how they both reflected on their past actions and very messed up connection that led them to a happy ending nonetheless. Was it rushed? Maybe a tiny bit. Some people would stretch it out a bit more, across the span of, like, 6 chapters perhaps? Really focusing on the inner turmoil more than anything else. But I'm satisfied as is. I liked this, it's pretty realistic.
AI boyfriend and Unpopular Doctor
CAN I PLEASE HAVE MORE The chapters were so short but adorable :") Actual dream to be honest, he just wants to take care of her I don't know why this wasn't continued in any way after chapter 5, but I have a feeling that if it had been, it would've been something like "You can't change my settings into loving someone else because I gained consciousness long ago and have been observing you working hard and living as yourself for the longest time before you flipped my on switch, so I actually fell in love" type of story. Either that, or at some point she will come to love him as well and just won't try to change him anymore. But it's highly likely that it's both
